What would do me, if it turned out it was one of the players who whinged to the players union. I'd tell the players to turn up anyway to start training, the ones who front are the ones that are committed to the cause, the rest, bye bye.

"It included the recommendation that pre-season training for the 2023 season should not commence prior to November 1."

I don't get it - if its only a recommendation why don;t they just say yea thanks for the advice but we will go ahead with it. What can the NRL do - hit us with a salary cap fine and suspend our CEO for not taking their advice. This sport is beyond a joke.

Are NRL clubs heading down the path where they pay players to train in the off season outside parameters of the players contract.
If the players want more money they work for it.
I'm unsure how it works as far as contract monies go.

Yeh, they could easily have said thanks for the recommendation but it doesn’t support our goals. Instead they say..’oh bugger, we were going to start training last week.’ Already looking for excuses for getting the spoon again?

I still don't get it. The regular population work all year, get 4 weeks holidays plus public holidays.
I know they work hard on their bodies but 5 months off full contact games or whatever it is, come on that's crazy.
Even if it was touch footy going through set plays is better that nothing.
It's no wonder these guys get lost when they cant play footy anymore and have to work 8-5 on average salaries.

I agree Cobar, why would you want anymore than 3 or 4 weeks off? Gosh even during that layoff you’d be in the gym and having a few 10klm runs. We see players come back from injury after missing a few games and take a while to regain their fitness.

Sad to read. I wish Mario the best.

I couldn't tolerate him on the field for either souffs or the Bears but it is very sad to hear of him in this situation.I honestly would not want to see anybody suffer from his terrible illness especially if he was being ridiculed over it.
