Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

They lost 6 games on the trot or something like that. I agree, the pride jersey rubbish played a part, but the point I am making is that DCE did not make a difference. They were in a position where they had to win 5 from the remaining 6 games, if not all 6 to make the finals when the jersey thing came about. That is with the turbo brothers, Foran, and a relatively strong forward pack. As I said, it wasn't all on DCE, but he did not make a positive difference. If we are throwing the bank at someone, I want it to be someone that does make that difference.
Yeah but imo the jersey issue obviously drove a wedge into the team.
Don’t you think DCE is yesterdays news ?

Let's move on from Munster. Still plenty of opportunity for us to make some A grade recruitment & retention over the next 2 months.

The club will be posting an 'Ask the Boss' video with Tim Sheens next week so hopefully we'll hear then on which positions we are recruiting for, how our retention is progressing, game style etc.

For the sake of it, here is my current take on players we may be 'realistically' going for in a top 10 ranking list.

1 - Dylan Brown for 2024+
I've read somewhere that he would be keen to remain in Western Sydney due to family and with the Benji factor I think we are a realistic chance to gazump the Eels significantly on $$$ especially if Moses remains on an upgraded deal.

2 - Spencer Leniu for 2024+ unless Panthers really need a salary dump or we swap with Jake Simpkin as @CCTW alluded.
Brings the speed & power we lack in the middle.
If Simpkin is swapped then Nu Brown comes into top 30

3 - David Klemmer but only if we can secure for 2023+ (and Musgrove finds a new home)
Experience/leadership & go forward.

4 - Jayd'n Sua or John Bateman for the backrow for 2023+ but only if Shawn Blore is viewed as a middle moving forward.
'A' Grade backrow addition to complement Papali'i. I'll reserve judgement on Bateman until after the World Cup given comments that his form has suffered since shoulder surgery a few seasons ago.

5 - Wade Graham for the backrow for one season in 2023 if Blore is staying in the backrow. And then Graham moves into an assistant coaching role in 2024. He has apparently been doing his coaching accred with Benji.
Used in a similar capacity as Scott Sattler in 2004 to bring professionalism & experience to the squad.

6 - (If Klemmer does not eventuate) Andrew Fifita for one season in 2023 or Mikolaj Oledski from England from 2023+ or Nathan Brown from 2023+.
I'm really keen to see how Oledski goes in the World Cup as he has the profile & determination to be a success in the NRL.
Only considering Brown if we move away from the Hastings at lock plan & use 3 go-forward middles again as CCTW mentioned.

7 - Brad Parker for 2023+ (only if AD relents and does not want to focus on Centre and signs elsewhere for 2024+)
Strong runner & very good defensively on the edge. I see similar type to Tom Opacic.

8 - Charlie Staines for 2023+
What position he ultimately plays depends on us securing Dylan Brown & the future of Daine Laurie (position and club).

9 - I really want to see our Development Squad as Matamua, Kautoga, Api Saukuru, Josh Feledy, Jordan Miller, Chris Faagutu & one of Dudley Dotoi, Mikey Tannous or Jahream Bula

10 - I'd love to see Henry O'Kane, Liam Scolari, Kade Hill, Jordan Hill, Atasi James, Christain Ma'anaima, Jack Boyling, Brandon Webster-Mansfield & Zane Camroux retained on T&T deals.

Good post I hope we achieve most of it

You are avoiding giving proper answer, would you ask him to write a public media retracion, seeing as that is where he insulted your business
public media.

Because in my 50 yrs operating my businesses
I have never come across
Another operator who would allow someone to insult his business in public, and not either sue or demand a retraction.
Sorry mate but you are not much of a businessman.
If u ran Ur business like the way these muppets run our club then Firstly u would have gone out of business long ago. Secondly because u run your business much better than the way our clubs run noone speaks I'll of it anyway. The club gets the hazing it deserves.

As much as I hate to admit it… Panthers are a pretty damn good rugby league club. If you can win every senior grade in a season you have to be doing things right - I think I read that its never been done before. Also means that you have incredible depth for years to come. Maybe Gus isn’t the tool many think he is - he certainly turned that place around.
He will turn the Dogs into a powerhouse as well, I can't stand the bloke but give credit where it's due. Gould knows what he's doing. Penrith pathways will slow eventually they will have a good decade then start sliding down the ladder again. We used to pump out juniors under Sheens first time here, over time and with people who don't know what they're doing the production of juniors through the pathways slows, not in terms of numbers but in terms of quality. The one who set it all up is gone, it'll start going backwards eventually.

Im so glad that Melb miraculously just happened to find a spare $4 Mil that they didnt realise they had .. Im sure Melb will make a statement today saying that the rest of the players are taking a pay cut to allow Munster stay at the Storm .. !!

Maybe the NRL auditors need to find that second set of books at Storm HQ again .. !! ;-)
Munster is the perfect example of short term pain for long term gain. By staying for less, he becomes a club legend and guarantees a life in either the Melbourne or national media in life post football. In the long run being a Storm legend as it is with any player it is vastly worth more in the long run financially then switching sides for a few hundred thousand a year for 4 years. Look at Aaron Woods, life after football would have been completely different for him if he stayed a Tiger. In retirement he would have been known as a Wests Tigers legend, now he's just known as a prop. In the long run in terms of career that's worth heaps more in terms of club and media commitments than a Mil over 4 years.

Who is Aaron Woods?

I think he is overrated. Manly finished 5 wins outside of the 8 and he had a much stronger squad than us to back him up. I know they had their issues outside of the players control, but for all his experience and talent, he made no difference. He is not the answer to our prayers.

The massive infighting going on within the squad wouldn't have helped with that.
Putting that aside he is a 53% winning halfback, not much better in the league.

Don't think he is over rated but I didn't actually realise how old he was.
Thought he was 28ish but he would start next year at 34.

No way would pay huge $$$ for DCE at 34+ it would be a retirement contract

Gus had nothing to do with the junior system. Was set up by Matt Cameron, Jimmy Jones, Sam Jones and Ben Harden. Gus brought in Packer to pay the bills

It wouldn’t shock me if Tedesco did return after the '24 season. To play under Benji, lead the team for his leadership & professionalism & give back to the MacArthur region where it all began. After achieving so much he might believe it would be a good way to end his career. To achieve a finals birth with the Tigers would be another big achievement and legacy. Depends how Benji could sell it to him. Would be an up side for the club. Maybe but it wouldn’t be a total shock.

Piss off.
