Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

There isn't really any positive news from the Pom there.

Klemmer would be great but he has to be released.

We desperately need a left edge backrower and Bateman I think played on the right plus it's way too risky a singing for us to make. I'd rather not make it.

Newcastle appear to want Brooks. It's interesting.

No Hastings, Laurie, Doeuihi or Brooks deals appear to be coming through. I'd prioritize Hastings then Doueihi but they appear to want to go to market.

There isn't much happening which is what I expected. It's a shame we are such mess in the spine. I'm not even sure who we should be signing.
maybe Sheens wants to lock in Brooks and try for Dylan Brown or Moses and thus sacrificing Hastings as a 13 and Douhie as a 6
7. Brooks
6. Dylan Brown
or
7. Moses
6. Brooks

Might have had a reason to stick with them?
They were probably the same tactics that got him 1 win off a GF appearance, And won him coach of the year...
By 20 minutes into that final game it wasn't working like last time. He needed to change it up. The Roosters defence was an umbrella cutting them off their plays every time.

Thanks Pom for your updates again alway enjoy them , just couple questions
what is the hold up with Hastings is it us or him ?
Spencer from Panthers are we any chance on him in %
Klemmer what chance are we % he will,be hear

thanks again

The Knights don't want Klemmer.

I am not fussed about Doueihi. If he is holding out for more $ until after the WC, good luck to him with his new club.

Hastings - it is unclear what the issue is but the club resurrected his career from ESL. Naively perhaps but some loyalty is due imo.

Hastings to me was the standout performer of the guys who can play in the halves and I don't consider him a top half in the comp.

I'm not really fussed who goes and who stays.

people shidden and pissen re players testing their value on the market post november 1. doesn't mean they are leaving the club, it means they are seeing what value they can get from other clubs, and use that as leverage to get more from WTs. yes they may sign elsewhere, but it doesn't mean they are gone.

put the diapers back on.

Sheens doesn't view Hastings as a 7 or 6. He is a 13. He still has one more year to go and by 2024 Matamua or Faagutu are realistic (and outstanding) options to fill the 13. To me, re-signing Hastings is preferable but not mandatory. Other very good options exist.

Don't lose Laurie he's one of the few that tried his guts out every week
Klemmer deal $2.1 for 3 years expensive compared to Papalii $1.9 mill 3 years
Knights didn't set world on fire with him but we definitely need a couple of big boppers . Regarding Brooks careful we resign Douehi and Hastings first

1. They may not be worth more to our club.
2. Munster was able to leverage a good Storm contract priot to 1 Nov.

If Hastings is only considered as a 13 I don't think you want to sign him on too long a deal because of those kids coming through.

It'd be a shame to lose one of our best players from last year and he might be viewed as a 13 but he was our best 7 last season and I don't think it was close. The question is can he play that role longer term and do it in a top team. Sheens seems to think no.

If the Tigers want Klemmer then obviously nothing preventing us from signing him for 2024 and then given the Knights are prepared to let him go for the right price (or swap) for 2023 either agitate (which has been done to the Tigers on several occasions be it Moses, Matterson etc to get out of a contact early) or offer the Knights someone the Tigers are prepared to let go, Peachey, Gildart, etc etc.

i never said they were. they might find that they can get more from other clubs and decide to leave. my point is that it's no guarantee that they are leaving.

munster was able to leverage a good deal from the storm because his manager made it apparent every night on MRL 360 what each club was going to offer him. they essentially did the post nov 1 dance early.

We still have him for 2023 which provides time for Matamua and Faagutu to obtain greater experience. I think WTs is in a strong position and imo would be smart not to enter a bidding war for Hastings or Doueihi. Both are contracted until end of 2023 and are replaceable.

They're not leaving as both are under contract until end of 2023. By that time, the club will have other options ready to replace them. Imo they can leverage all they want but WTs is in a strong position.

I'm not certainly not in a tizzy.

The problem with players doing this consistently is that we always have to pay top dollar. Nofo is a classic example.

It happens at other clubs as well. Nanai is using us to get a good contract offer. It Cowboys can't match it or get close to it I assume he comes to us. The point being they don't get Nanai for cheap anymore. Other players have to be let go.

It's just a cap management issue.

David Klemmer has an offer on the table from the club worth $2.1m over 3 years, the club willing to pick-up the full tab of his $800K deal for 2023 with the remaining 2 years being $650K.

Knights have asked for Brooks in return but want the club to pick-up the $200k difference, Sheens is keen to coach Brooks & don't see this side of things eventuating.

The Staines/Peachey swap is currently at an impasse, Staines want's longer deal than offered, currently our offer is only for the 2023 season, we may go in for 2024 but not the 3 years he's after.

To address the Nanai talk, from a personal belief I see him staying at the Cowboys, but it is true that come November 1 the club will be having a red hot crack at him, this comes after Liam's Martin management informed the club that his options were either Panthers (which he'll most likely stay) or Parramatta.

Musgrove does have significant interest from the Dragons but he's told the club twice now that he doesn't want to leave & earn his place in the 17.

The hope of getting Spencer Leniu seems all but hope Jakes Simpkin has been discussed as a potential swap but he's also be discussed with Eels also for a Swap with Nathan Brown, we aren't the only club looking at Spencer & his management has been speaking to multiple clubs, Storm are well & truly in the mix here.

John Bateman talks have increased recently after Wigan became more reasonable about a potential transfer fee. Don't be surprised if start being linked to St Helens backrower Joe Batchelor, he's signed for 2023 but recently employed a Australian agent & is keen to give the NRL a crack (Sheens knows this) also young Wigan Forward Morgan Smithies has been discussed.

Expecting some noise around Hastings to be come louder publicly soon as it appears unlikely a deal won't be done prior to November 1.
Such a pleasure to read your posts POM as your a gentleman as much as your insight.
I personally hope the Klem info comes thru.
In regards to J. Nanai, I have an old army mate who has connections with Brothers RL in Townsville and a passionate Cowboy supporter and he says Nanai has family in Townsville and it would take a missile to budge him from the Cowboys.
