Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Tommy Talau will be in the top 30.
Nu Brown was offered a fair 2 year deal to stay but wanted more, Club will not budge on the offer & expect him to leave.
Henry O'Kane was sitting on the fence last I heard, offer still on the table, believe he will stay.
As mentioned previously Albert Kelly has been spoken to about training with the club in the offseason, only other confirmed T&T at the moment is Brandon Mansfield.

Nu Brown served a purpose this year. Plenty of depth coming through the ranks though, so not fussed if he departs.
Interesting with O'Kane...assuming it is train and trial or development. Would like to see him stick around and see what he does next year. However, wouldn't think a Top 30 spot is there for him.

Newcastle never mentioned $800k, but even if they do pay him that, still doesn't make him worth that, and certainly doesn't mean we match or beat it, especially for a player who has had 9 years to prove his value to us, so I stand by my comments

Funny though - the dragons reserve grade half is on 600 next year - Kyle Flanagan around the same…
It might just be that halves are more expensive than everyone wants them to be

Doueihi and Hastings will be here until end of next year. I have no concerns if they go end of next season.
Well aware of that Paws but you can't just assume that wanting more money is the reason those players havnt signed yet. Like most of us they may be wanting to see who the club recruits before committing.

It's not hate it's value, so he is on a back ended deal worth over a million next year, point is he is not worth $500k a year, let alone the average of around $700k plus a year across the contract length
and 2024 it can be renegotiated. Sheens is keen on Brooks at 7 I guess all that matters despite the hate for Brooks

I think Hook is probably on shakier ground at present because we know ( coz he told us) that O Brien has been in and around premiership winning sides.
Sort of like an interview I heard with the actress Sally Field years ago when someone asked her if she had ever been involved in any wild Hollywood parties etc. She said no, but I’ve been in the vicinity !

Paying out four coaches for various lengths up to five years. I didn’t think this club could sink to new depths but that would be pretty bloody low.

He'll need to learn how to play properly
Think we could get two young forwards for the money we will be outlaying to get Klemmer, and we might only get a couple of years out of him, better investment is 1 or 2 young fella's.

Sheens has stated at least twice, perhaps three times, that he wants Brooks. Knights want to deal but Sheens has stated we are not dealing.

Mate that is certainly how it sounds to me. Personally I think we need to make some tough decisions in the spine and Brooks to me hasn't performed well enough. Doueiehi hasn't either. Hastings to me was the best of the three of them.

It's going to be interesting watching and seeing what happens. I hope they surprise me on the upside next season. I think they did that once in 05. This year I have low expectations.

I still feel there is plenty of potential positives to come but it's more like Stef coming back or our new recruits (so far we've recruited exceptionally well) or hopefully juniors coming through.

So putting off negotiations until after the WC has nothing to do with cash?
Of course money has plenty to do with it, but in case you havnt noticed cash hasn't been a great incentive for attracting players to want to sign or possibly stay at this club. Pretty obvious that plenty of players value being competitive in the competition more - and at this point not many backs would be too excited about playing behind our pack.

Just playing devils advocate for a moment, maybe with TS planned new attack strategy he sees more in Brooks in that regard.
Maybe he thinks he can remake Scotty Prince Mk2.
That’s fine but we did have a lot more firepower with a guy called Marshall and Hodgo at the back. And a pack that were going forward most days.
It seems incredible to me that he is so keen on Brooks( or maybe that push is coming from Benji/Robbie) when’s he had so many chances. I hope we don’t see Hastings walk because of it as I believe he can be add plenty.

David Klemmer has an offer on the table from the club worth $2.1m over 3 years, the club willing to pick-up the full tab of his $800K deal for 2023 with the remaining 2 years being $650K.

Knights have asked for Brooks in return but want the club to pick-up the $200k difference, Sheens is keen to coach Brooks & don't see this side of things eventuating.

The Staines/Peachey swap is currently at an impasse, Staines want's longer deal than offered, currently our offer is only for the 2023 season, we may go in for 2024 but not the 3 years he's after.

To address the Nanai talk, from a personal belief I see him staying at the Cowboys, but it is true that come November 1 the club will be having a red hot crack at him, this comes after Liam's Martin management informed the club that his options were either Panthers (which he'll most likely stay) or Parramatta.

Musgrove does have significant interest from the Dragons but he's told the club twice now that he doesn't want to leave & earn his place in the 17.

The hope of getting Spencer Leniu seems all but hope Jakes Simpkin has been discussed as a potential swap but he's also be discussed with Eels also for a Swap with Nathan Brown, we aren't the only club looking at Spencer & his management has been speaking to multiple clubs, Storm are well & truly in the mix here.

John Bateman talks have increased recently after Wigan became more reasonable about a potential transfer fee. Don't be surprised if start being linked to St Helens backrower Joe Batchelor, he's signed for 2023 but recently employed a Australian agent & is keen to give the NRL a crack (Sheens knows this) also young Wigan Forward Morgan Smithies has been discussed.

Expecting some noise around Hastings to be come louder publicly soon as it appears unlikely a deal won't be done prior to November 1.
Thanks Pom!

Anyone else think Klemmers price tag is a little hefty? Even @ $650k?
Yes, definitely. Imo He is not improving with age, but maybe that’s just the club is not going well, and that sounds like good coin.
From the Pom feedback it seems we want him, and most likely will get him, so I hope it’s money well spent.

Do you really think Joffa is the answer at 13?
As I’ve said before he’s solid but not a gamebreaker or a player with any real vision.
For mine he’s a prop at best or maybe off the bench.
I think Hastings can really grow into the 13.
Not sure about 6 and 7,but not Hastings imo.
I guess it’s all about knowing what jigsaw pieces we end up with, and then seeing how they fit.
Agree Hal. Joffa , while solid is no Jim Dymock. When Hastings played that hybred 13 position i loved the footy the Tigs played . A POD from all other teams & thats exactly what we need.
