Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Yeah I think too many people here are confusing his poor positioning at fullback with being a poor defender. His tackling efficiency would be above average as a half. He defends in the line all the time, which is probably why he too often gets caught out of position.
I don’t think any fullback will look good with our middle defence. We are good at exposing our fullback 1on 1. We did that with Teddy and we do that with Laurie.
Guys like Kikau are no match for smaller fullbacks.

Yep, I'm liking this move. It wasn't touted by the Tiger's management team and despite the rumours, the deal was done and suggests a better relationship betwixt the Bus Driver and our rabble. In fact, the rabble may be rousers now, given that we got him! Ok OK he may not be a world beater but he's still a kid with speed to burn and there's something simmering at the Club. I loved the Benji promo for the membership drive. This has all the hallmarks of Marketing 101 to not only attract members but also player talent. Changing our image as a stodgy dodgy club. Benji brings Energy ( unlike Reynolds who brought arthritis).

I don't want to piss on anyones parade, but the reason we were able to get Staines is:

1) Both players were willing to swap clubs
2) Both clubs were willing to swap players

No other club offered Staines anything. Staines was lucky to get a deal given his salary.

Players don't improve significantly in 6 months - watch some Penrith games from this year and you can expect more of the same with our club next year.

I really don't get why people expect players to become better when they sign with us. The bigger and very real risk is they become worse.

Glad it's only a one year deal.

Very interesting that Staines is for 1 year only. A mere stop-gap solution it seems. Appears even the WT's dont see him as a viable long-term replacement. Maybe waiting for Teddy to recommit lol.
No, I think it’s more a case of the player and club reassessing the value. He is on $500k which is on the high side
I’m sure if he performs at the same level they will throw a decent 3 year offer at him.

Exactly. The way I look at it the club is writing off $350k which was 🍑's salary. Then it's a case of paying a bit above the written off amount to actually get a player which is useful for the squad. Smart play not keeping Staines on longer on the same coin.

I’d be surprised if the panthers paid a few game rookie $500k per year for three years back in 2020 with all the talent retention issues they had and with the depth of outside backs. Even $350k seems a lot

I read on here today peachy played roughly 13 games this year, how many times was he sin binned???
Wasn't much help to his mates when he ran on, having to run off to the sin bin
