Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Contrary to others i think he is a better half by far then Hastings and AD. No,he has not performed as we all expected, but the side was a slow shambles all over the park. Two years ago Hunt and Townsend copped the same hate, but playing in a better side had them firing again. I'm not saying that will happen, but i think Sheens and Marshall will keep him, and get him to work overtime on his kicking game. If not, we need a new half, not Hastings and AD.
Difference is Hunt and Townsend always had good kicking games and were intelligent players. They also more often than not take the correct option. They're also very strong communicators which is the halfs main job. Brooks is mute

Taking into account the players who have been moved on who were under contract, the retention of the core group of kids, on top of Api + Ice….adding Bateman and potentially Klemmer would make it the best recruitment/retention period the club has had for a period of time.

mate the dragons side is just as bad as ours lol good players stand out in shit teams which is what hunt did & what brooks has failed to do

I still can't see where Jimmy Ngutlik fits in ? I know we had an aversion to speed ,Korobete ,Papenhausen ,Addo Carr . He's quick and very promising
There are words/rumours going around that Ken Maumalo might be forced to call it a day due to knee problems .. ?? So Jimmy (age 22) can slot in there, when and if Ken leaves .. ??

Dont worry about Jimmy Ngutlik not having played enough .. if he's got the talent and ya think he's good enough .. the Sheenius will give him a crack .. just like he did with this school kid they called .. Benji .. !!;)

I want to see Hastings and AD given a chance. Everyone talks about them being slow but Brooks is quick and we've been terrible for years on end.

I'd prefer all our players to be quicker but it's only one aspect of playing footy.

This gets forgotten all too frequently.

We have a genuine need for speed right across the park though Earl. More to the point, it's electric speed off the mark that burns the defense..we have 0

This usually works when the team gets the foundation right, but we had mostly useless forwards, so Tedesco, Koroibete, JAC, Simona had to do everything themselves or wait on Marshall's moment of magic.

I agree but we have two wingers that do finish and do provide exceptional hit-ups. They just aren't going to run the length of the field.

Put it this way I'm less worried about Hastings being slow at 7 compared to Brooks taking the wrong option.

All i'll say to all the Ngutlik lovers. There is always a reason why someone hasn't played first grade by 22. If he's soooo good he should be in the starting lineup right?

I have provided an article about Justin Olam. He was in his 20s when he played his first NRL game for the Storm. These young men don't get exposure to elite training in PNG but they are tough, skillful and will work hard to make it. Reference is made to Marcus Bai, another PNG hero. Ngutlik is a raw talent and there is no one better to harness it than Sheens with Marshall and Farah.

This is the reality and it is obvious we lack it when playing the best teams.
I always reckon the same but if you take a look at the 2005 GF backline it isn't really full of noted speedsters out wide. Brett Hodgson, Daniel Fitzhenry, Paul Whatuira, Shane Elford, Pat Richards, Benji Marshall, Scott Prince. The two fastest players in that team were the halves probably. Hodgson no slouch but not electric either and the outside backs were not quick at all. The difference being they all had the knack of being in the right place at the right time and played pretty flat which makes players look faster by taking time away from the defence. That team played up tempo footy without having speed to burn. Fast hands, fast between the ears, unpredicatable and a smaller, creative, mobile pack made the difference. A fast team without noted individual speedsters.

When I watched his last couple of PNG games he seemed to have a good combination going with Justin Olam and I thought better lock him in or the Storm will

Quick between the ears is better than just being fast at running. Brooks has a touch of speed but is the dumbest half in the NRL
