Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I've not seen any evidence of much strength at all....
On either side of the ball.
If he was as Strong as "it gets" you'd see it in his game somewhere...

That could be a club thing - Interesting to hear Woods say that when he went to the Sharks he was surprised to see how far below the NRL benchmark (Shared between every club)
he was in the Weights Room (No one had ever told him apparently) And how it was effecting his injuries and overall game.

Combine that with the bleating obvious and Sheens confirming we weren't fit enough....

If anyone is honest with themselves, And we get Klemmer
- There just isn't a spot in a fully fit 17 for Twal.
Ofahengaue edges him out for mine - Very similar players, But Joe beats him past the posts, And I can't leave out Stefano, Klem or Pole.

Alex isn't going to all of a sudden do something now he's never done...
Usually at his age when props come on, Is because they develop all the things Alex has always had.
Work Ethic, Maturity, Stamina etc...
I don't care how good Sheens record may be - He's not turning A Twal into B Clyde.
Combine that with the bleating obvious and Sheens confirming we weren't fit enough....’ after this is about a ‘team’ that complained about how hard Madge trained them 🤔

You don't remember the chip and chase - it was waffled on about for weeks...
Plenty on here had him amongst the shining lights / future of the club.

What about the pass to put Tuialigi into a gap and then backed it up to score.

How far behind Brooks, Doueihi and Hastings was he last season ? I don't get how he wasn't offered more opportunities.

Front office has nothing to do with recruitment and retention decisions since July 2022 and that is what you were talking about. It's 100% Tim Sheens since the moment he signed back on as head coach July 2022.

Any other argument about long-term Tigers mistakes and administrative bungles - sure there have been plenty in the past, probably more to come in the future. It's a tired old argument without any new material this offseason.

Then an entirely separate argument altogether about the current abilities of Sheens - it remains to be seen whether or not he can achieve success. No doubt he's been out of the game for a good while. I am not a Sheens bootlicker and I never said he was going to be successful, so you are again muddying arguments. All I said is that Sheens is making his decisions and doing so decisively, and there's nothing amateur about the way Sheens is going about his business. They may be bad decisions in the long-run, but they are professionally managed.

If you don't think the front office has any sort of say or input over retention and recruitment, then I have a bridge over Sydney Harbour that I'd like to sell you. There is not a single major sporting organisation on this planet, whether it be NRL, NBA, AFL or MLB, where recruitment and retention decisions are 100% in the hands of the coach. It's a matter of how much they have and while I don't doubt Sheens has almost complete say, it's not 100%. For example, the recent article re Hastings and Brooks, Sheens was quoted as saying "if I have my way, Brooks will be halfback". Doesn't sound like a man in complete control.

No new material? We went from the previous offseason of signing Api, IP and Hastings to signing Staines (NSW Cup for most of his career), a semi-professional rugby player and a career journeyman in Will Smith. All while reportedly trying to get rid of our best half while trying to extend a guy who has failed for the better part of a decade. If he can land us Bateman and/or Klemmer, I'll give him due credit.

No it isn't a seperate argument about Sheens because that is the most recent example of both his coaching ability and front office ability and it is far from encouraging. Apologies, didn't mean to throw you in with those simpletons. I don't think you're one of the brainless bootlicking synchophants like paws and Tony because you can actually hold a reasonable debate and think for yourself. Like I said, I hope he proves me wrong and leads us to the finals but if his recent history is anything to go by, I won't get my hopes up.

The only reason I could fathom Sheens releasing Hastings instead of Brooks may be because of the article last week stating that Bateman and Hastings didn't see eye to eye, perhaps if Sheens knows Batemans on his way he figures its easier this way than dealing with any issues in the squad later, Sheens might rate Bateman as more important to the future of the squad. Just a conspiracy theory.
Just ignore that nonsense.

It doesn't matter if players get on or not. One gossip piece about two team mates not being mates off the field is just useless trash.

Sure some of our boys hangout together, others don't. Who cares, you don't need to like someone to be able to play with them. So long as neither are toxic attitudes (which isn't the case) there's nothing to it.

Just my opinion:

If it was another season under Madge, I’d be pushing for Brooks to go too Newcastle and getting it done ASAP - swap or not

However, it’s obvious Sheens/Benji have extreme faith in Brooks and I’d trust both their opinions especially knowing they’ve seen him day in and day out at training etc and know what his capable of over any of us quite frankly - Cleary turned Brooks into arguably the best halfback in the game with a poor forward line, I have faith that Sheens and Benji may allow Brooks to go back to that especially with the pack we’re potentially gonna have along with Api (which is MASSIVE for Brooks) giving him the space which he thrives off

I believe Sheens and Benji deserve there chance with Brooks and do think it might be a match made in heaven, worst case he doesn't perform and he's off contact and we go into the market for a new one - Moses, George Willams or a new name that pops up..... I’m not Brooks’s biggest fan however I don’t think there’s a halfback in the comp that takes our team the last 5-6 years in the top 8

Best case: Brooks performs great and we shake the competition up next year with good performances and Moses gets a call to return to his boyhood club alongside his best mate on good $ and they take us into the promise land under there idol Benji - like him or not but Moses is a top 3 half in the comp and would improve us dramatically

I do like Jacko I do, however the reason I think we all love him is cause we haven’t seen a halfback with that level of leadership/organisation in a long time - however he does struggle to take on the line and break tackles where that’s Brooks’s strength and with the style of play we’re expected to play it suits Brooks more than Hastings it’s as simple as that
Only problem is if Brooks has a good year and we decide we want him for 24 later this season, he’s likely already signed elsewhere by then…

I know it’s click bait…but F-it. I’m about to click that link knowing full well its the same old dribble with a slightly different headline. Sorry guys for encouraging poor journalism (if you can call it that) driven by google analytic.
Yep, absolutely nothing new in this article whatsoever. Saved you the click guys.

Might have been the issue...
Training / Game work load.

Always remember Liddle being gassed after 10 minutes thinking - That ain't right....

I saw a similar post over the weekend but very interesting or coincidental that our players under the management of Sam Ayoub (Ultra Management) have left or rumoured on the outer - Tamou, Gildart, Hastings, Nofa plus we're not linked with anyone from this stable (https://ultramanagement.com.au/players/). Although Robbie Farah is managed by Ultra and very tight with the Ayoubs.

And we're seemingly linked with a few big names from the Isaac Moses (Cove Agency) stable - Bateman, Klemmer, Woods with Brooks in Sheens' plans too.

I'm not suggesting our Club is more aligned to some managers than others but it may shed some light on who provides info to the media.

FYI a lot of our young guys coming up through the ranks are with Mario Tartak (Crown Management) who manages Benji I believe (or used to).

Don't take things so Literally.... It's like the Mbye thread that was re-hashed recently.... It was after one of his first games for us and apparently he killed it... People change their tune very quick

I don't doubt that something will happen and it's probably a good thing but it sounds so stupid. Hastings being the fall guy to get Bateman ? I'm worried Bateman is a dud signing and we release the guy who was our best performing spine player last season.

Sheens appears to love Brooks.

I wonder if Paws is really Sheens.
Is Paws really Sheens- i doubt it , but they are both astute when it comes to players'.
