Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I agreed with that post. He was our most complete half. You are correct though in that he is a running 6 who can do some good stuff with the ball and he has a decent all round kicking game.

He just isn't a gun half and he is not even really an organizing 7.

I think at best he can be a role player in a gun team.

The problem is to many on here view him as being a gun player when he isn't. Neither is Hastings or Doueihi or Laurie.
Brooks is nowhere near a complete player. I wonder if the narrative around him would change if he was on less money.

Attacking can mean a lot of things.

It means we score more points. To clarify I don’t really look at last year because Hastings didn’t play halfback all that much - it’s just my personal opinion - as is this whole argument and I respect if you have a different one.

I think with Hastings we score more points as a team.

And I think with Hastings we win more games. ( easiest way to think about this is who do you think would win in a game - Api/Hastings or Api/Brooks.

People who continue to pull up stats about Brooks ability whether it be a bit attack or defense moss the point - it’s about winning games as a team and as the half back he takes a resonable piece of accountability for that.

That’s my point - apologize if the words I chose in the previous post didn’t articulate that properly.

All good mate. I get it but struggle with the logic. Everyone has a view.

On face value we looked better in some ways with Hastings leading but as I watched the games a few more times I also actually thought he contributed alot to why we weren't a success as well.

In 22 we came last, had our least successful year of wins & points scored by a mile. I just can't see how anyone can honestly say in an attacking structure Hastings will add more value than AD/Brooks in the halves. In other aspects sure Hastings does, just don't see it attacking wise.

Time to hate me forum!

Why not bring back Woods + Andrew Fifita for one year.

Seriously of all the old tigers we are carrying we could do worse. Moreover they set a standard, I know Woods hasn't lately played well. In almost every team he lowers the forward bar. Here, if Woods could be brought for unders (and he may just realise that the longer he plays, the longer his TV career will be) You would have someone who would upgrade the our squad.

Andrew Fifita in his time was a gun player, if it was on he was on, if it was off he was off. Inconsistent but ferocious.

Both I would start at Bench or reserves and were talking not much more then 200k each. (we might just get them at that price because Fifita has recently retired and Woods is close). Even trial and train, nothing that would commit us to serious cap money or long term contracts.

Why? It really worries me when people say you need 7 Props, 2 for the game, 2 for the bench 2 for when those two get injured and a spare or two. Our forward pack is so light on and if Sheens/Marshall does not get it firing then we are in trouble.
You really are a crazy cat, aren't ya!

I love what Lee H said about Sheen's comment to him..
Sheen said you will not recognise this team in 2023 and it's fair to say he is well and truly on the way to making that a true statement....
This is the best clean out we have every had and makes for a very exciting future.

Glass HALF FULL guys... We are not all going to like every decision made but overall we can all agree we have ungraded pretty much all players this off season that have left.

Sheens atm is getting a pass mark easily on the roster decisions for 23/24.

The key will be how the roster is setup for Benji's years in 25 & if we can lure 2-3 more top line NRL players for 24 onwards over next few months.

Geez it's disappointing to lose Hastings but finally locking in Klem is a good move. Hopefully now they can push Frizell through for '23 and I guess we get Moses to replace AD in '24.

FACT;- Hastings is gone !--get over it. FACT;- Brooks is playing in the halves in 2023. --love it or leave it- suck rocks. FACT;- AD will not get $900,000 or an extended contract. FACT; - there are few if any halves on the market better then Brooks at this time. Fact ;- Sheens will not keep anyone that does not benefit the club, including Brooks, Fact;- this is a good time for the Tigers, sensible signings, money in the cap, juniors coming through, and big money from off contract players in 2024. Enjoy while you can.
Tigers will never make the finals with Luke Brooks playing halfback.

Also I dispute your Fact statement about no halves being on the market better than Brooks. Brooks is not even at the level of the best State Cup halfbacks, he can be a decent 6, but as he's mute, can't pass long, short kick, organise or make correct decisions, pretty much any available 7 is a better player than Brooks

That's just a little hard to accept.

I’m absolutely sure it would . If on regular money, would probably have been moved on ages ago, without much fanfare.
Have to admire he and his managers nous in their contract negotiations and timing since big 4 split.
For sure it would. That's the issue. He's on big coin which means you need to win 3 games or more on your own.

If he was earning 550k the talk would be so lower

God Camel, don’t tell Sheens and Co any of this, coz he has just bet the family farm on LB to deliver in, at least 23, and maybe beyond.
Why didn’t Tim know this info b4 he made such a critical decision.

FACT: Brooks ain’t a good halfback… no matter how much you adore him he’s a long term loser with a list of excuses longer than the Amazon River.

Interesting your argument is about attacking players between Brooks & Hastings?

Hastings in 63 nrl games has scored 3 times, has 22 try assists & 17 drop outs to his name.
Last year he had 1200 + receipts for 7 try assists.

Brooks 189 nrl games, 42 trys, 108 try assists, 93 drop outs
Last year he had 856 receipts, 2 trys, 10 try assists

Brooks is by far the more attacking player of the 2

If we look at last 5yrs 2022 was our worst year across the park attack, defensive, wins etc.
Last year we scored 150pts in the season and had double the wins.

Y - W / F v A D
22 - 4 / 352 v 679 -327
21 - 8 / 500/714 -214
20 - 7 / 440/505 -56
19 - 11 / 467 / 461 +6
18 - 12 / 367/409 -42

Brooks is a better attacking player than Hastings, Hastings is a better chief than Brooks.
They both have pro's con's. If you want to grind a win Hastings will be the pick, if we want to score points & who cares about defence Brooks is the pick
Wests Tigers didn't win a game with Brooks at 7 in 2022. Tells you everything you need to know.

With Brooks Tigers won 2/17 games (both wins were with Hastings at 7)

Without Brooks Tigers won 2/7. Still poor but 2.5 times more likely to win with Brooks out of the team

The next interesting comparison will be to see if it’s Brooks or Hastings who win the most games next year.
