Hastings - Reasons for leaving

no - Sheens told him he would be playing lock and didn't see him as a no.7 - he was offered the 7 and an upgrade on his contract by Newcastle and WT said they wouldn't stand in his way if he wished to leave. He could have stayed at WT but chose to leave. The Klemmer deal may have been used as a sweetener to release Hastings but it wasn't a swap.
'Reports emerged Sheens was not a fan of Hastings, which saw the club move to bolster their pack with Klemmer and send the halfback to Newcastle on a three-year deal.'

They can't just "send him to Newcastle". He had to agree to go there. Admittedly WT hadn't offered him an extension at the time Newcastle offered him an upgrade and 3 years and the promise of playing 7. Seems like he came out of pretty well off.

Seems to me Tiges have been persisting with Brooks for quite a few seasons with little to show for it, yet in one season with Hastings we beat top teams Parra, Rabbits & robbed against Nth Qld.
As soon as he was out injured for the rest of the season, we get the spoon. Just sayin

ahh yes all Luke's fault

Do you think Hastings failed at WT?
I don’t think he failed. Thought he was one of our best and showed some leadership.

Agree on all that, he simply wasn't our best in the halves, no matter how much we wished he could have been.

I wish him all the best at Newcastle, and look forward to the second round clash at Leichhardt.

We have a better half than Hastings, which makes me wonder why we’re chasing Moses?

Well we currently have zero halfbacks in the NRL squad
I thought Moses left because we were a circus and we’ve gone downhill since then.
Sure we’ve signed a few forwards but they haven’t put it on the park yet.
The only way Moses will come to WT is if he believes strongly that, if it was Brooks who went to Eels in 2017 and he stayed at WT, their fortunes would be reversed. We would be offering Brooks $1.4m to leave Eels.
If by some strange twist we sign Moses, then we need to hang onto Brooks.

Best game manager we've had in years - Game managed us to our worst result in our history....
I liked some things about him on the field.... Hated many others.
We won't miss him next year as much as has been implied.
If you're referring to the Roosters game Hastings didn't even play

It’s not that simple though. Ts purely speculation. Our squad will be stronger across the park in 2023 and he missed some crucial games so we may lot have had our worst season ever.

I was an Hastings fanboy. I think he was good for us but now I think he’s being a pork chop in the media so I’ve moved on.

I see, so Hastings remains the benchmark for halves, even though he plays at another club? We go after any half who is better than Hastings, regardless of how many halves we have?

You can see what you want or choose to see.

I see Sheens, Benji and possibly Robbie as well, that also viewed Hastings as other than WT best halfback and along with getting Klemmer, that is why he is no longer here. Don't think that is up for argument.

I would have kept him on as a ball distributor and back-up in the halves, whilst they chose let him go immediately.

We're improved in the forwards but definitely weaker in the halves without Jackson. We are currently rudderless as there is not one game manager amongst the squad
Hastings was the Knights' Plan B for 7. Brooks was the Knights' Plan A. You don't believe the decision makers at WTs so perhaps you may believe the decision makers at another NRL club.
