Not sure they can do that - surely like us the name is owned by the NRL ad is part of their 'contract' with them.
Then again there are some weird things that have happened - Manly were able to dump Norths/ Saints premierships are still counted (whereas as ours after amalgamation are not)

Much the same reason why 20 years on we can't just abandon campbletown or Balmain area, we are too far down the rabbit hole you just alienate half your supporter base.

Its weird isn't it - this follows on from StGID😉 losing a number of their promising Illawarra juniors not long ago that had the Illawarra side up in arms. Also strange when you consider that WIN who have virtually backed the Steelers long term own 50% of StGID. They ( StGID ) seem to be on a fast track to self destruction.

Re branding for NRL clubs must be the flavour of the month. The recent rebranding of Wests Ashfield now means we also have a new owner in theory. Changing the name to the Holman Barnes group has made ownership of all the different entities a little bit murkier.
