Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Luke Brooks did not throw that Bulldogs game.
He, like the rest of the squad played pisspoor football and a team who struggled all year took their opportunity.
Mitchell Moses on the other hand did tank games here.He did blame his teammates for his incompetence and he did play the mental health card to gain an early contract release.
People are slamming Brooks, yet are very happy to give Moses a massive contract to come back here….it’s just crazy.

In that 2021 game vs the Dogs. The forwards in the first 15 got us good field position and 3 times in that opening spell Brooks had an easy 3 on 2s but instead turned the ball back on the inside into traffic and killed the play. At that point the rest of the team knew their halfback was actively tanking so they all stopped trying
That is a really cool story. Unfortunately it has no link to reality. In the first 15 minutes of that game, Luke Brooks passed one pass inside (at 5:13 match time), it was on the first tackle and he passed it to Stef. Not another single inside pass from Brooks in the first fifteen minutes of the game. Not a single "3 on 2" in the first 15 minutes of that game and the "good field position" that the forwards got us saw us down 10-0 at the 15 minute mark and we didnt hold the ball for a single tackle between the 7:44 and 15:50min mark.

Feel free to point out the time stamps of the 3 on 2 butchering.

But yeah....solid forward platform, Brooks butchering 3 on 2's and the rest of the team gives up.....

fairy tales.

Amco / Panasonic Cup anyone?
Mid week knock-out comp that ran fro 1974-1989.
I won’t guess at how many times I jumped the back fence and scrambled up the hill under the old fig tree behind the posts… but I do remember how the Tiges owned that comp.
3 x titles - 76, 85 & 87 and finalists in 80, 86 & 88. Easily the most successful team over the 15 yrs.
Fortress.
You can add to that the 77 Amco Cup, the Magpies beat the chickens 6-5 at Leichardt.

This is why you need receipts when telling your truths lol…

Agree. I'm by no means a Brooks fan, but regardless of poor performances or decisions I've never felt he hasn't been trying his best.

I also remember at least two games last season he had left side overlaps and to be fair, passed it perfectly both times for the try assist. I actually told my dad I thought he might be a better centre than halfback!

I was a bit serious too! We had the WORST centres last season (and every season going back how long...?!) and although a bit left field, he is fast, can defend pretty well and showed in those instances he has the ability to pass well in that situation.

Hopefully the centres are shaping up better for 23, so this would be ridiculous, but then... Sheens...

Until we see him perform with the new pack, we shouldn’t even be discussing extensions with him. Same goes for Doueihi and everyone else that’s off contract. No point extending him when he hasn’t even kicked a ball yet. If he really wants to stay he has to earn it like the rest, bloke has done nothing to deserve special treatment.
Post 2023 Marshall has to okay new contracts. So both Sheens and Marshall want to extend his contract on a new deal mentioned by the former.

If Freud was the father of psychoanalysis then surely Maslow was the grandfather of workplace motivation? His needs hierarchy not only helps identify barriers to motivation but also compartmentalises them so the manager can choose level of involvement. I think when it comes to professional sport the involvement is much higher?
Nah, you need to go way past Maslow.

Yes his Hierarchy of needs is great, but it is a drop in the ocean.

Carol Szwek I don't get but her work is good.
Daniel Pink is AWESOME.

Seriously 10 minute video (animated) on Motivation. You will get his point so much better.

Unsure how it applies to Sport but it is the best motivation video I know.

Its also supportive of Maslow's theory, which is basically saying there's more to motivation than monetary incentive reward, "remove the speed bumps to reaching and maintaining peak performance." Moreso the self actualization of individuals who are free to achieve something beyond their own self improvement? Anyhoo... thats the way I see it?

God I hope that the Seyfarth to England and we get Nathan Brown part is true
Another upgrade in my eyes, in saying that I don't mind Seyfarth he has a real dig but just don't think he will be a week in week out starter. Hope he proves me wring though. We have given spots to heaps worse players.

Love this post. The Brooks bashers are so out of touch with reality. Criticism of him is fine, and often justified, but if they are going to carry on the way they do some evidence would be nice.

If they extend him before he even is tested they are 100% idiots. Brooks did nothing last year that was worthy of an extension, only Joffa and Pole was worthy of it. Everyone that is off contract now should not be starting talks of staying until they prove they can play with the new pack. No club is going to be actively trying to pursue Brooks so Tigers should be smart and wait to see how he does, if he is still bad they go to look elsewhere and Brooks is moved on that’s how the strong teams recruit.

He cops it way too harshly but that doesn't mean he is a good option. We are offering a fortune to Moses because Brooks hasn't cut it.

I can't wait until the season starts.
He cracks under pressure way too much and does dumb stuff as a result. That’s the biggest issue mostly but the ones that do call him out have a right to. Some go to far but the criticism he cops is deserved.
