Luke Brooks #167

I'd agree that he doesnt kick us out of trouble, but nor is his kicking game bad. I'd say kicking out of troube is way easier said than done. There are very few halves in the comp that actually can, and those few that occassionally manage to typically do so after a strong run where a forward has taken multiple defenders out of the line or made a quick play the ball, thus less kick pressure. Again, i dont see our forwards ever having done that. Brooks kicking stats are actually comparable to most other halves. In fact he has slightly less kick errors per game than the bloke were chasing to take his spot. The out on the full and 7 tackle set chat is a complete myth.
Decision making is debatable. There isn't really any stat specifically to measure that. But, his/the Tigers attacking output compared to other teams and factoring our defence is respectable. He does make his fair share of errors, but again it is at a rate comparable to most halves.
Another problem Brooks has is the inability to ever put a team away or manage/close out a game. That's huge for a halfback/general of the team. Fans have zero confidence if up by a converted try with 5 mins to go that the Tigers wont lose by 12. Additionally, if the Tigers are up by 20 with 20 mins to go, he never seems to get aggressive and want to stick the knife in to make the win up by 30 or more. Its so frustrating.

People don’t get it mate, your opponent has a lot to do with your kicking. The best example is those dominant QLD sides who won eight straight. Made Mitchell Pearce look like a mug. Couldn’t find any greenery with his kicks. That’s losing the yardage and intensity game. Forwards. Nothing else!

Lol …. Brooks does good it’s because of someone else

I remember last year brooks set up a dime for Laurie to score the game winning try and he fluffed it.. warriors maybe? everyone blamed brooks for not icing the game earlier

Then there was another one when he kicked the game winning field goal against souffs… it was because of jacko because he was used as a decoy

Damned if he does damned if he doesn’t
Probably best if he just got punted than.

Just a light hearted comment fella. They don't seem to be welcome on here this week.

The attitude and name calling crap on here and other threads, is for mine worse than any other period that I can recall.

People telling others to grow up and the like repeatedly, acting like ultimate juveniles in attacking others that may suffer dyslexia and ruining the experience of this forum for others.

People still have those pitch forks out that you condone for poor performance seasons for the last 10 seasons of poor performances.
Mate just put your hate were it’s deserving the refs, nrl for its blind eye ti salary cap rorting, the media that ambush us at every chance yet let the bulldogs who have Performed a lot worse than us over the past 4-5 years. Yet u here little critical evaluation about their team. Hate in them not your own players.

I lost my best mate on Monday and as each day passes I find myself less and less tolerant of gutless keyboard warriors who continue to spew hate. Time for me to hit the ignore button he just ain’t worth my time
You can’t choose your family but you do choose your mates. I lost a great mate of mine a few years back and blubbered like a child for days. Still brings a tear to my eye. Nothing anyone says or does makes it better. My heart and condolences go out to you, best of luck getting through it.

Good post. I don't get the comments about Brooks kicking game being that bad. It's not elite ala Cleary but he was our best general kicker last season and it wasn't close.

I think his decision making under pressure is poor but I see Clearly making mistakes and going missing and he is the best in the game.

We do have to work on this aspect of the game Earl. Too many times Brooks was kicking under pressure, from the wrong spot and kicking it straight down the opposition's throat.
Hopefully with a decent pack that gets the D back peddling we'll see a better set up for kicks and quality kicks.
When was the last 40/20? A great kick deep down past the 20m line along with a great chase is so important these days.
They have to kick from deep in their territory on the 5th for a change, that hasn't happened for a lonnnngg time.

The only way to improve your kicking game is to practice. That falls entirely onto Luke if that's what the coaches expect him to improve. Coaching only goes so far.
I’m just hoping that he does do that practice( along with AD) and they kick to spaces not faces.
Forcing the opposition full back to gather off the deck is so much better than letting them take it on the full with momentum.
And bombs, pressure and commitment required.
Any kick is only as good as the chasers !
