Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Give it time.
Let’s make sure the pack is fixed first.
They are the real footballers in a squad.

If the pack performs like it looks on paper, we should see reasonable improvement in the backs. Brooks' career here is likely hinging on it.

No fan of his and I'm not necessarily sold that he'll suddenly become an above average half, but our pack has been garbage for years and I've only ever seen one player in the halves routinely perform behind a beaten pack and that guy will be our coach in 2025.

Some people have a very selective memory about Sheens as they only remember the "good things".There are quite a few who still remember both the good and bad and undoubtedly we will be getting a dose of both again.
It will be an interesting season for many reasons

What do you know. What have you done?

Sheen goes back to 84 spotted guys like Greg Alexander. Had one of the best sides in the 89 to 94 Raiders the best side in an era plus somehow managed to win our shit club a grand final. Our club hasnt made the finals in the 11 years hes been gone. Bitter people like you hold on to something obscure for the rest of their lives.

Obviously the internet is going to do its thing but really the man should get more respect.

Sheens is a coach that's not afraid to go outside the normal he's interim coach for 2 years If you like it or not I don't see why people just don't back him hopefully we might see something a bit different again.

No one will or can deny that he's had a good coaching career. He's won 4 premierships, he's given us our very few tastes of finals footy. That all being said he still only took us to the finals 3 times in ten seasons and there was a shedload of downs for the few ups that we had.

Proof will be in the pudding the next two seasons. Admittedly, he's identified that he need some hard and reliable forward leaders for the young fellas and has accordingly recruited quality where we need it in Klemmer and Bateman.

We've had ten years of non performance since his last stint here so fans are naturally cautious in getting their hopes up. I don't think any fan genuinely wants him to fail, they're just not getting caught up in it yet. I want him to succeed, if he succeeds so does the club, I don't think any fan will argue that.

Well put CB. I can't think of the player or member of coaching staff who only has a list of pros and no cons. We support the club/jersey without knowing what is going on within the inner circle, and a consequence of that is having faith in whomever is steering the ship. I have faith in the direction the club is going and I hope we see some positive results this year and moving forward. I could focus on negatives, but I would go insane.

WTTID!

Just read an article about Herbie Farnworth. He wants to play FB, but it looks like Reece Walsh will get first crack with the Broncs. I read here we were talking to him, I really hope that comes up. Young fella with international experience and I think will be a hell of a player. Would be a fantastic addition to our backline, and I don't see anyone smashing the door down at FB for us at the moment.

You are correct but unfortunately the NRL believe otherwise as it is the easy option
I think they have no choice, imagine a scenario where the teams rorting the tpa system or salary cap instantly dissapear, we would only have a comp of about 6 teams

Without seeing how our defence has changed, I’d say ball movement with changing angles to isolate our halves and centres.
Sheens me tioned "stupidly dropping the ball"

High Ball movement footy, lots of hands and bodies lends itself to stupidly dropping the ball.... Particularly in the early days....
That'll test the defence, the one we're not working on

Interesting Sheens fact.
Bellamy, Maguire and Stuart all played under Coach Sheens and all have won NRL premierships as coaches.
Can Benji join that list?
My memory isn't the best but was Sheens the Assistant to Bennett or was Bennet the Assistant to Sheens before going to Brisbane.

No mate- Bennett & Furner were the Canberra coaches. Sheens was his own man.

While looking at the Sheens coaching tree- Walters, Stuart & Bellamy obviously. But additionally, Simmons, Daley, Dean Lance, John Morris, Meninga, John Cartwright- the list would go on.

Over time, Sheens has had his hand in the development of several coaches. Warren Ryan is probably the coach closest to him for his assistants going on to coach at a first grade/representative level.

I don't see Farnworth being a good fullback. Would have both our current options ahead of him. Wouldn't like him in the centres here but.
