Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

You don't think Farnworth is better than our current centres or fullback???

I'd love to sign him, especially in those positions
I probably agree. Don't see him as a fullback or as a fullback any better than what we already have in Laurie and Staines. As a centre, perhaps, but, again, I don't think he's that amazing, certainly not the way he's talked up on here. However, he's a hard runner, relatively quick and I like the vigour and enthusiasm he plays with.

He's better than any centre we have. He's consistent, strong and can defend and attack. Plus he's only 22. I'd take him in a heartbeat.

The forward pack looks good, even the State Cup pack looks good. WTs look to be focusing heavily on the backs. Any top tier back should be approached. Farnworth is one of the top centres (don’t know how he would go at FB) But he is quality.

In terms of impact so far, he's probably ahead of AJ and Toa but he had the benefit of a powerful pack of forwards and a star centre partner who took the attention away from him. AJ and Toa were starved of opportunities while Douiehi and Naden are both penetrative when given room to move. I don't quite see Farnsworth as the difference maker others do.

Except for one game Farnsworth put it all over Kotoni staggs.

AJ and Toa weren't starved of defence, where I'd like to pint out they were poor. AJ and Toa arnt even nrl quality centres. Farnsworth is an international in that position.

great centre, not a fullback. can't and won't pass. that said, if there's anybody that can help him develop a passing game, its Tim Sheens and Benjamin Quentin Marshall. if you sign Farnworth, worst case scenario is he plays in the centres, where he is already a premier player, just unsure if its worth throwing $700k+ at a bloke who is completely unproven at 1.

I'm not worried about centres. Our halves and fullback are where we need a class player or even better 3 class players.
agree. All of our half and fullback options are off contract in November. Which is a good thing because none are elite. All will have the opportunity to play behind a good pack. The recruitment priority in the backs IMO should be No7 then No 1.

Can Stains pass? Laurie can but other parts of his game needs work.

Slater,Tedesco never passed either. More runners. Joey Manu hardly passed and he was player of the tournament I think at the world cup.

If Farnsworth could play the Manu game it would work.

I think we should see how the team performs, with so many new players. The young backs have not had much of an opportunity owing to covid and injury, and playing in a poor team. Plus even younger players who will be available, for 2024. There will be more players on the market, let's not get into a buying frenzy, and bend the cap out of shape. If it's not broken, don't throw it out.
The halves and FB,are under pressure, and it's obvious Sheens thinks this is the priority.
The rest ? Let's see what unfolds first.

Teddy and Manu have great passing games, probably two of the best in the game. Why would you pay big dollars for another player, when you have Stains, Laurie, and Bula in the mix ? Give the side 6 mths, before jumping into that fire.

No mate- Bennett & Furner were the Canberra coaches. Sheens was his own man.

While looking at the Sheens coaching tree- Walters, Stuart & Bellamy obviously. But additionally, Simmons, Daley, Dean Lance, John Morris, Meninga, John Cartwright- the list would go on.

Over time, Sheens has had his hand in the development of several coaches. Warren Ryan is probably the coach closest to him for his assistants going on to coach at a first grade/representative level.
Oh OK, thought either Sheens of Bennett were head coach of Canberra while the other was an assistant.
