Many talk about culture, Penrith have it in spades. Jack Gibson recognised the importance of bonding the side off the field. He made the guys don suits, for special occasions to lift their profile and esteem. He has regular BBQ's for players and partners. I would not expect the Tigers to be that extreme, but getting the players together away from the game helps build that culture.

I remember pre Xmas there were reports of Moses and Douhei training together at Holy Cross ?
Does anyone know if they still getting together occasionally or was that only in lieu of formal training not having started for them ( after WC)?

Exactly. It's about correcting where the club has gone wrong not great coaching on game day

Short term pain for long term gain, we know through experience Sheens can set things up so the club is stable in the future with a great production line of talent, it's then about looking after and maintaining the systems implemented and not letting everything turn to water like it recently has.

Maguire is a premiership coach, but comparing his time at WT with that of a coaching legend like Tim Sheens who is yet to coach a single game, is unfair. To start with Maguire arrived facing a club in big trouble. The CEO and previous Coach feuding and unhappy boardroom which spilt over to a lack of support to Maguire, who battled to balance a cap in terrible shape while being undermined by the board.
The thing to remember about Maguire's tenure is that he left the club in much better shape than he found it and that's his legacy.
Sheens otoh has 2 years to build on Maguires legacy, with a much easier run, particularly in terms of the cap.

Sheens was here for a decade and did all those things and won a comp. Also producing some of the best talent running around in the game now.

He has the key word potential.

In an honest not hopeful assessment on his 22 nrl run he didn’t show any NRL qualities, he was found out & if anything cost us badly.

Hopefully next few years he progresses and his potential translates into an NRL quality forward but as it stands he is a long way off NRL quality from last years form.

No doubt when he was on the pitch last year was prob not ready for an nrl start and was thrust into it due to necessity with injuries, iv got no doubt the potential is there, but like so many others it will be realised or squandered.

Matamua looks like a great prospect aswell, just young and needs to learn how to curb his aggression. He will get it sorted in time.

We need tradesmen type players, no frills who get the job done, like Heighno and Liam Fulton

I'd rather have transcendent, once in a generation talent or, failing that, obvious rep calibre. But there's also a place for solid first grade standard footballers, sure. I'm just not sure how successful a club is likely to be if its recruitment policy is to deliberately target slightly better than average.

You know what else Penrith have? Really talented footballers. I'd start by looking for those and sort out the card nights and dress code when we've got them.

Except for one game Farnsworth put it all over Kotoni staggs.

AJ and Toa weren't starved of defence, where I'd like to pint out they were poor. AJ and Toa arnt even nrl quality centres. Farnsworth is an international in that position.

I think there's a clear plan here.

Both off contract, both have been underwhelming - one quite longer than the other.

I think the coaching staff will see how both fire and then make a judgemental call.

One or the other , maybe both - maybe neither...

It'll be an interesting season nonetheless.

My honest opinion is AD WILL be in centres for best part of the year Daine to be 5/8, Brooks 7 once season get rolling. Based on performance and of course attitude of all 3 will decide on who gets rewarded, can't help but think Sheens & Benji wouldn't take kindly to a player personally demanding which position he is to play if Mosses does sign I feel Adam will either move on or be let go

There is a lot of attention given to Sheens but I just read this article and apologise if it has been posted before. Marshall's comments are poignant and his referral to team bonding is imo significant. It is always interesting to read the thoughts of our next coach so WTs (and its supporters) are in a very interesing position.

He looks like a ball player which makes him different to a lot of players and that makes him stand out a bit. I also think he has a lot of work to do as well but you never know.

Anyone new who knows how to pass, particularly in traffic, is bound to have attracted some attention during the last few seasons. Lol

Yeh it annoys me when players want positions but arnt good enough to warrant them.

7. Brooks is way more rounded and gives us more attacking threats. However Brooks can't be the only kicker. Not sure if Daine has a long kicking game.

To be fair, Sheens HAS singled out Matamua out for praise more than those players. Sure, just his opinion, but enough for me to pay attention.
