Honestly I would have paid. 200-300k loading to get Brooks to Newcastle instead of Hastings.

I would have too but they didn't make that decision. The season is starting soon and we will get a better idea if they made the right decision.

Ha, fair enough. My point is really that the current recruitment setup could only really chase what was out there. Munster was a nonstarter and they went hard at Moses, but he was always going to be a maybe - it wasn't as if he was obviously desperate to get out of Parra, so it was very much a case of "blow me away with an offer". We seem to have offered something more than reasonable. If that's not enough, so be it.

The bottom line is that this sort of root and branch rebuild is going to take time and 100% will be derailed by rash moves. I'd certainly rather we had a gun spine player signed or incoming, but I can't really fault the efforts made in this offseason specifically. Put it this way: I'd rather keep the powder dry for the next time a genuine difference maker becomes available than waste it all on some Josh Reynolds type nuffie who will help drag us back to exactly where we're trying to escape.
