Smith not in the Top 30, so can’t play Round 1.

Will be Simpkin on the bench over him, I reckon.
Robbie what's happened to Smith? I assumed he was to cover that failed Peachey role....has he not trained well or is he here to just cover injuries?

Agreed. I’ve never been blown away by his speed. He’s not a guy that gets the ball in the clear and it’s shut the gates. Did someone say Robert Jennings MKII?

He would be much better than Jennings, however since Sheens reportedly threw a lot of money at him to get him here he would certainly want to be

Looking at the team we put together. With the exception of Pole whom only became a first grader last year this team consisted of a new recruits, players back from rehab and train and trial / dev players.
I watched the other games today and we were by far the worst team that’s trialled so far. But most of the teams that have trialled consisted of mostly their nsw cup team / Flegg teams from last year there would be far more continuity in those teams because they have played many years together and there players weren’t returning from serious injuries.
Even the warriors side we played. I dunno about the 1, not sure where he came from. The 2-6 were all playing last year with no injuries. The 7 came back from injury last year and played out the year in a strong sharks squad. The 8 played all year in first grade, Lussick joined the Warriors mid last year, Ale the 10 was a rookie along with IPap, 12 was a strong rookie at the dragons, Warriors have plenty of guys to come back in but we certainly played a very decent back up team.
It is disappointing that we sucked, mostly our efforts in defence. But I wonder if we put out a side of players who were fit all last year and was able to focus on combinations during preseason would we have done much better? I think so.

Going by the team he picked Sheens is only interested in 2024.all he seems to want is to give as many young blokes as possible some first grade minutes

In reality, he picked a team to play a trial to get minutes in their legs be they either new, trialling a new position or coming back from injury. Pretty much what a trial is for. The difference between us and other teams (in the trials) is we have suffered from a pretty heave injury toll over the past 2 years.

I really dont care one f$#@$ing bit what everybody says about the Warriors trial, the kids need a taste of NRL and they got it...what matters is that the OLD BOYS CLUB who everyone thinks is our saviour have to coach a top 17 side to be winners...our record shows that this club is a pensioners paradise ,,,the sooner we become a professional NRL competative side then the sooner we have more confidence in our complete club from admin to coaching to put wins on the board,,,until that happens we may as well have Cleary,JT, Potter and Madge back because until Bunji,Backstabber Farah and Sue the club Sheens produce wins and finals appearances, then nothing changes...
RESULTS MATTER and they have to be positive winning results, everything else is just hype and hysteria...which suits people like paws and claws etc,you know the ones who keep spruiking the new COACHING club will deliver, but dont give credit to Madge for getting the pathways sorted so we can develop Feledy,Matua,etc..and hopefully keep them...
anyway cant wait for the season to start to see how far we have progressed,Sheens has a good cap,Api,Papi as starters for good recruitment as well as the other greats we will rely on to escalate us to the 8 this year...

Guess most teams are then as well…..

Most teams haven’t played close to their 1st grade team. Most teams have been at best a mix of junior, cup & trial players with max maybe 1-2 top 17 players (most of those being injured for chunk of last season).

The Knights were really the only exception so far who named a strong team for them and got beat by a reggies team.

Expect to see the sides listed next round for most clubs be more NRL focused than this round.

Round 1 lineup predicted excluding Bateman (once he arrives Matamua probably drops out).

Laurie
Staines
Kepaoa
Naden
Maumalo
Douhei
Brooks
Stefano
Api
Klemmer
Ice
Blore
Joffa

Pole
Twal
Matamua
Smith
Smith not top 30 right?
What about Matamua being a utility? I thought i read somewhere he can cover 5/8?
If centre/wing goes down, Bateman can shift to centre, FB - Douehi shifts

I can’t speak for everyone, but for mine, I don’t trust our coaching staff at all. Sheens should be playing golf and Benji should be cutting his teeth in the juniors.
This leads to being sceptical of what they will produce. Letting 9 tries in is a true indication of how we have seen defensive preparation this off season. It also shows that our top 30 is really only a top 20.
Long season ahead.
I'm not arguing that at all ...I'm arguing the many are having a mental breakdown after losing a trial

We made a mistake ( again ) with the coaching appts but we shouldn't be booting them in the balls until they start losing NRL games ......
