Yeh lock to me is probably the most versatile position in the squad.Depends on how many options your side can create in attack ...you don't necessarily need a ball playing lock ...but it wouldn't hurt if you can
Everyone still focussing on attack ...lets focus on limiting the opposition's attack ...or isn't that exciting enough
Your lock is there to complement others. If you have creative halves, hookers and fullback- the lock becomes a third prop. But if your props are big fellas then the lock would need to be mobile. If your hooker is attack-oriented, then your lock needs to be a tackling machine. Ball playing is an added bonus but it is useless if they don't threaten the line. Fulton had some good ball playing skills but never looked dangerous because he could never really bend the line.
Ofcourse your top props like Murray and Yeo have it all. Fitness, strength, skill and footballing brains.
