TEAM LIST Pre-season Challenge Round 2 vs. Raiders

Team List
Depends on how many options your side can create in attack ...you don't necessarily need a ball playing lock ...but it wouldn't hurt if you can

Everyone still focussing on attack ...lets focus on limiting the opposition's attack ...or isn't that exciting enough
Yeh lock to me is probably the most versatile position in the squad.

Your lock is there to complement others. If you have creative halves, hookers and fullback- the lock becomes a third prop. But if your props are big fellas then the lock would need to be mobile. If your hooker is attack-oriented, then your lock needs to be a tackling machine. Ball playing is an added bonus but it is useless if they don't threaten the line. Fulton had some good ball playing skills but never looked dangerous because he could never really bend the line.

Ofcourse your top props like Murray and Yeo have it all. Fitness, strength, skill and footballing brains.

The focus for us just needs to be field position. Nofoaluma always got buried because of his defensive issues but seriously if you have left your winger to be the only defender, they're gonna score 9/10 times no matter who the winger is.

Often it’s not our winger marking several attackers, it’s a case of our winger coming in on a ball carrier who is already covered. Our winger touches no one, and gives our cover defenders further to run. If Scolari had more trust on those inside, his opposite would not have been seen as the threat he became.

Guess if we score off every set then we hold the ball all game.

I reckon it's really important. Other teams don't get tired from defending or they aren't put in a bad position because our attack is poor and then they get the ball and kill us.

The question is do we have the players to score some points.

It works in reverse as well. If you can defend really well you can get the ball in better position and more turnovers etc.

The game now though seems to favor having a good attack. If you try and defend your way to wins all the time over the course of the season you'll be down the bottom of the ladder just like we typically are.

It might sound stupid and it probably is but that is the way I see it.
We havent had the skill to put defensive pressure on our opponents, bad passes, drop balls poor options etc. However if we can keep the other side doing the stuff they find less enjoyable LOL, like running up and back that 10 mts, taking the hard runs in their own twenty etc. it becomes a different game. LOL

Too many times Nofa hasn't trusted
his inside man and either come in and
jammed or gone for the intercept tbf.
He needs to mark his man, hug that
touchline, pick your spots when to come
in and put pressure on the centre or
become a second man in the tackle.
Trust your second rower & centre,
even the fullback sweeping across
to make the tackle. It's not rocket
science but he gets it wrong 7/10.
Watch how he defended at Storm,
Didn't have to do much at all there
because Olam shut everything down
on that right hand side and they made
him stay on his wing. It's frustrating,
hope they get it right with his center
partner and Bateman this year other
wise we'll leak a lot of cheap points
again down that right hand edge smh

I'm no Brooks fan but gee across the league the halfback stocks are absolutely bare. Also, our team is a lot worse without him.

I also don't really get our club's recruitment strategy in that position. We let go Maddon and Hastings and pick up a dud halfback from a bad team who doesn't have a good half but didn't want to keep him and now he's our second choice halfback after two weeks of training. Surely a bit more thought could be put into that position?

I wonder if we showed any interest in Te mare Martin? I've always thought he was a capable player.

To second that. Every outside man should be capable of a 1 on 1 tackle. Failing that it either opens up space through ineffective contact of that defender or creates easy over laps because the trust for an effective 1 on 1 tackle is broken by the covering players.
It was the second time they were on the line, talau covered the centre there was no reason Scolari needed to come in field. At least not at that stage of the game. Had there been repeat it I’ve examples of Wakeham and Talau not making their tackles then fair enough not much you can do. But early in the game give them a chance to own their slot.

The big thing is clubs learnt not to panic against Sheens coached WT's sides and just keep a straight line ...as long as no one in the defence line panics you are good ...you could even hear the screams in opposition defence lines to keep a straight line ......especially when a certain assistant coach used to try and shake hands with the winger with the ball after crabbing 20 metres sideways .......

Basically how the Roosters handle any opposition.

That’s easy to say unless it’s Montoya running at you.😂

That thought did cross my mind 😂
That time when Staines literally put his body on the line in an effort to cover up the ball or slow Montoya’s progress, our winger was dizzy from running in circles. Nofa would have done the same I reckon? But not Ken.
