Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

What pisses me off .. and probably most of us on here is that right from the start we all knew that MM was playing us .. then delaying the decision again and again was only a RED flag to us all which only confirmed our doubt from the start .. except the club who were confident that we would land him .. !! MM played all along only to get the most money out .. yes $1.25 is less than our $1.4 .. but there is a lot of third-party money going on in the background with the Parra deal.

What worries me know is .. how asleep have the recruiting management team been during this pull the wool over their eyes trick by MM .. from the start they always said not to worry that they had a plan "B" .. well it's only 2 weeks out from the season start .. so what is this plan "B".. ??
It is also possible that it was a difficult decision for him and he simply chose to stay at Parramatta after a long and complex negotiation process.

Not everything or every outcome that doesn't fall our way is malicious.

Don't need one for this year.

Agree with you apart from the bit about plan b as season only 2 weeks away

MM was for 2024 not this year

We are stuck with what we have for this year no matter what MM decided

I think we'll go well this year. Hopefully make the 8. I see
  • Staines playing very well at FB for most of the year
  • Doehi playing well as 5/8. I can even see him playing some lock, with Laurie moving into 5/8
  • Brooks doing well as halfback
  • Laurie filling in in the halves during injury or when Sheens tries AD in 13.
Wonder if Laurie has trained as 9 at all in the off-season? If he has, he would make a great 14.

Staines seemed more the fullback prospect at 1 to me. He bigger, faster stronger.

The fact that it's two weeks from the start of the season is completely irrelevant as Moses would only ever have been for 2024. Whatever "plan B" might be, there are 54 weeks to execute it. So calm down.

Also, we have nothing to confirm the club was "confident" other than gossip on here. You can't turn vague internet innuendo into the official position of the club.

Anyway, so far as I can see we likely had the best offer on the table for several weeks until Parra upped theirs at the last minute. That would be legitimate grounds for "confidence" along the lines of "we are confident he's going to take our offer unless Parra come back with significantly more money". "Confidence" =/= "certainty".

I really don't know what you expect recruitment to do if it's not pursuing the best available players. I don't see any sign that Moses was never a chance of signing for the Tigers - it's entirely possible his view was always that he would sign the best offer or stay at Parra if the offers were more or less equal. Are the Tigers meant to never make a bid on a player in case he thinks about it for a while then says no? How is that being "asleep at the wheel"?

The bottom line is there is a world of difference between "when push comes to shove he'll lean towards Parra if the offers are comparable" and "he was playing us all along". When you assume the latter you're acting like a teenager who has been turned down for a date.

Not exactly sure what you mean by “the Raiders making 60-70m a set for much of the first half”. That is not my recollection and so I went back and took note of the Raiders yardage per set up to the point when Rapana was binned (with 7:20 left in the first half). I counted the metres gained from tackle 1 to the fifth tackle kick, or until their set broke down.

By my calculation they had 15 sets by the time Rapana was marched.

They made in excess of 50m in 4 of those sets as follows: 60m on their first set from the kick off; another 60m on their 8th set (a 7 tackle set); 90m on their 11th set to score a try (which included a kick); and 69m in their 12th set.

There were 3 other sets which they started deep in their own half and made 35m twice and 45m once.

There were 2 sets they started just inside their own half and made 42m and 32m respectively.

There were 4 sets that they started around 30m from our line, or closer, and in 2 of those they were forced back and lost ground.

Our line speed was much better in our own half. And we really outmuscled them in our own quarter. Not sure if that is a tactic.

That makes 13 sets. The other 2 sets they received penalties before they had made much ground.

My impression was that we held our own and that was certainly reflected in the score when Rapana was binned.
Good work fibro

Forget Mitch Moses, we already let Lachlan Ilias slip through the cracks. He had a tough start to his career, but by the end of last year with Latrell in his side, he was looking class.
And how would Ilias have gone surrounded by a bunch of numpties that was our team last year. Worse than ordinary i would suggest.

Moses was the only experienced half on the market. Brooks has proven many times he's not an organising 7.

I'd suggest despite Pom's comment, our only option is to look at an Ethan Sanders type player coming up.

The junior halves we have coming through are still at least 3 years away, that's if they make it.
Sorry not familiar with Sanders. When will he be playing NRL and for whom? If our blokes are 3 yrs away. That makes it 2026. And hopefully we don’t lose these young blokes.

all involve transfer fees and the clubs have to release them
Pezet maybe but that would just be a loan no point in that it only helps storm
Probably not a bad option. A loan agreement especially if our 7 not working for us. What happened to Volkman. Liked him, kicked our butts in the past. Maybe he hasn’t kicked on?

From all reports MM was for 2024. We have 12 months to work on a plan be. See who fires in 2023 to make a play for? If required.

Ethan Sanders is at Parra and is a U/19’s player.

Our halves prospects coming through are:
Onitoni Large: U/16’s
Alex Conti: U/17’s
Oliver Lawry: U/19’s
Alex Isdale: U/16’s

Volkman made his NRL debut for Warriors last year.

Still there, but behind Martin, Johnson and Metcalf.

Well he'll get that much at lest from the ARU and with the added bonus of travelling to NZ and SA and Europe every year. He'll also note the BIG money in RU in both the UK/Europe and Japan which would make that amount pale in comparison. He'll stay at Easts or go back to rugby - no other club will be in the discussion.

Been saying this for ages as well,
nobody else has tickets to the
dance besides roosters and RA.
They just resigned Tongan thor
and will be looking for a glamour
back after Kerevi stayed in Japan.
Have a feeling he's edging toward
rugby already and wants to play
play fullback. You don't have get
out clauses for each year of your
contract if you're not considering
making the switch. He can tour
the world and play in a home WC
& British & Irish Lions tour also
