@batboy mentioned mixing up the props physical builds so the opposition don't get use to the same players... Penrith style.

JFH , tall and athletic x Moses Leota, more stocky and solid.

An AD x Brooks pairing is very much like this, contrasting.

AD, tall and forward like build.
Brooks, shorter and more stocky build I guess.

Keep the opposition on their toes, in regards to defence.

That theory works if they both run it a lot.

Both when on their game are direct runners as well, they do straighten into the line and it will create issues if our forwards dominate. They play opposite sides & can compliment each other nicely.

Brooks side is lined with Papa as a hole runner (expect Brooks to go to the line with short pass at line to Papa), mixed with Naden outside of Papa who has some pace and is looking primed with Laurie out the back.

We know AD will run also, just hope Laurie hovers on his inside hip. AD is right handed and when he takes the line on often has the arm free looking inside whilst drawing the inside defender. Then because of his running strength it will allow the outside backrower & centre to benefit if aggressive on the line runs which we saw his options in trial.

I’m nervous but excited to see both have the ability to play attacking footy, they will make mistakes but if they are allowed to play have no doubts they will put on a show.

He’s not writing him off but after how long he’s been with us you can see why he’s doubtful and I don’t blame him.

Hardly played last year, new coaches this year as much as you would like to label him a perennial loser people are capable of change. Give him to round 1.

he's the only halfback I think that would work in the allotted timeframe besides Brooks. 29 next year, three year deal would be perfect and give one of our young halves time to develop before taking the jersey in '27 next to Large.

I'd do the AD extension scenario make him earn it this year.

George Williams is only 28. He certainly isn't past his best. If anything I'd say he's getting better. His form has been a bit up and down since he returned to Warrington. But that's more because he had arguably the worst pack in the competition and a coach who went scorched earth after taking over leading almost to open revolt. The moment Williams was taken out of the lunatic asylum and into the hands of his old coach, Shaun Wane, he was among the top players in the World Cup. The guy has one of the best short kicking games I've seen. Not afraid to attack the line. Good support player. Extremely solid defender. If we didn't have Dodd, Lomax & Welsby as our spine I'd have no problems with George. Top player. Whether he wants to go back to the NRL after Sticky outrageously blackened his name to anyone who would listen .... I'm not so sure.
George Williams has the game that would be amazing behind a good pack. Doesn't play like a traditional 7. Almost every play he tries to rush the advantage line and put defenders under pressure. Would combine well with Api Koroisau.

Great summary. Remember that try v Brisbane last year when Laurie broke through via an offload from Douehi, inside ball at that. Definitely plenty to get excited about & hopefully we see more of it this year. I’m hoping the additions of Api, Klem, Ice & Bateman will mean our best performances are much improved & our worst are much closer to our best!

It will be interesting to see who plays fullback in Cup, and whether Bula plays in flegg or cup to start the season. And at fullback or on the wing.
I don’t get having a mentor to learn off on a football field. Not at this level. The best way to get experience is to just play. You some hard heads around you but having guys in front of you to mentor you while you play KOE to me seems idiotic. Mmmm.

Definitely worth a crack at him

He can't feel great knowing that he's now their 4th choice playmaker. Not a great show of confidence either that warriors had him and still felt obliged to go for both Metcalf and Martin after getting Johnson.
Pretty sure Metcalf was signed first, really early in the season. Volkman was signed mid season and with an immediate transfer.

Metcalf will probably be a fullback and Johnson is past it

What do you base that on?

I don't remember seeing him actually under the high ball...
Dont worry to much TS,Sheens said that Laurie and Staines have given him a headache to sort out before Rnd 1...He is coach and I would leave it to his years of expert knowledge of rugby league and recruiting brilliantly since coming back to the NRL after a 10 year layoff,no doubt he will have Laurie on the wing and Stains at lock...Sheenius at its best...
Im being sarcastic mate,,,Sheens does have a headache to see who he puts the 1 jumper on..dont forget it was a trial.Laurie is talented and so is Stains...a coaches choice,he sees them everyday...

There's an old saying in Boxing which is pertinent: "They never come back".
Yea but that is boxing. Violent sport and you get smashed to a pulp, you don't come back as easily.
League is a little similar, players who suffer ACL's don't come back as fast. Yet comebacks do happen, Kieran Foran an example.
