EELS STAR COULD BE SQUEEZED OUT - Waqa Blake

The Parramatta Eels face losing another grand final star with reports Waqa Blake could be squeezed out due to salary cap constraints.

Wide World of Sports reports a new deal for Mitchell Moses, who has been offered four years at $1.1 million a season, would mean little room to re-sign Blake. It comes after the Eels also locked down half Dylan Brown on a bumper deal.

The Fijian-born flyer is off-contract at the end of the season and according to WWOS, “rival clubs are circling”.

Blake would join Isaiah Papali’i, Reed Mahoney, Marata Niukore as grand finalists to have left the club since the defeat to the Panthers.

SHARKS BACKROWER’S BIG CALL - Teig Wilton

Cronulla enforcer Teig Wilton is reportedly hot property, with at least six clubs lining up to sign the backrower.

Wilton’s contract ends after the 2023 season and is free to negotiate with rivals for the 2024 season and beyond.

According to WWOS, the Sharks have begun talks to extend his stay in the Shire but Wilton will likely hold off on signing a new deal as his value rises with regular starting minutes.

The Rabbitohs are reportedly keen on his services and assistant coach John Morris is shaping as a key figure in Wilton’s potential recruitment.

Morris is Wilton’s uncle and the Redfern-based club reportedly believe he’s the perfect man to partner experienced five-eight Cody Walker on the left edge.

Meanwhile, the reigning premiers the Panthers are said to be one of the other clubs interested in his signature.

Should we have a crack at either of them .. ?? for me it's a no .. !!
I would take Teig Wilton in a instance...

Waqa however needs to go to ESL

Eels fans would be happy to see Blake go. Too many mistakes in him...actually he would fit in well with the Tigers!

Waqa would be a step above all of our centres bar perhaps Naden. Only in the centres though, cannot be a winger.

There is no point picking up a starting second rower like Wilton given we already have Papali'i, Bateman and Blore on long contracts.

Need good backs. Find a 7 then find a 1. Centres need work too.

The smallest guy is supposed to direct the team on how to play, something he is useless at. He has the footy iq of a gnat. Can't control a game, his pass selection is garbage, no kicking game, definatly one of the bottom 3 halves in the comp. Brooks is a myth and will never get the Tigers anywhere. He has been through 6 coaches. Yet it's always the coaches fault. 6 different coaches are all at fault, not the 1 constant that hasn't changed in that time. He has a pack now making space for him and he is clueless. Even blind Freddy last weekend knew, they're down on troops work in through the middle and work the ruck over, but no boy genius and Douhi decide touchline to touchline is the way to go. I just hope the next forward to get a hospital pass at the line from him puts one on his jaw in the locker room, maybe then he will wake up.

Say's who ! Storm had Smith, Cheese,Cronk,Paps, and a world class set of forwards and backs. Manly DCE had Foran , tommy and a great pack, Panthers had Cleary, LUI, Edwards etc the list is endless. None of the top 8 sides rely on just the 1/2 , that is fantasy, They all have good 5/8's , great 9's, great fullbacks and great forwards. None of these sides rely on the halfback to solely lead them, the 1/2 has a role to play amongst the rest. Newcastle lost their playmaker in Ponga, and others and still shit on the Tigers. If the side doesn't perform the half has no chance to look good.

FULLBACK

Corey Allan, Declan Casey, Trai Fuller, Bailey Hodgson, Albert Hopoate, Terrell Kalo Kalo, William Kennedy, Daine Laurie, Moses Mbye, Will Smith, Taine Tuaupiki, Kaeo Weekes

Fullback
12 players off contract from zero tackle
Don't worry about fullback, that's Bula's. 6 and 7 are the problem. Wakeham and Smith can't be any worse. Could have got O'Sullivan for 500k. Trindall probably less. There's KOE guys around better than Brooks and Douehei.

I would be happy for the club to try for RTS or William Kennedy as they are both guns. RTS preferable as he can develop Bula if he is all what we have been told.

No doubt the team as a whole has flaws. Brooks and Douhi are major ones. All those halves you mention show great leadership qualities and the ability to perform under pressure generally. Something Brooks has never done in 10 years. His time is up, he would kick on at another team maybe good luck to him, but he is doing nothing at the Tigers and hasn't in his 10 years. It's time for us to start looking towards a new halves pairing for the future.

Wouldn't the most obvious thing to do, is give Stains a couple of full games to see how he goes, before tying to pull monkeys out of the hat ? Did anyone expect to hit the ground running, with a hooker that looks like he's been on the piss since xmas.. A 5/8 that can't tackle, a fb who is not a fullback, a backline lacking speed and ability. A side that can't work out who is a lock or front rower. A pommie whose last played his best football years ago, and is yet to start. Sheens said 2025, that is opimistic.

We need to sign Moses & Tuivasa-Scheck shift Brooks to five eighth & Doueihi to centre & that instantly makes us a top 8 team.
Imagine this backline.
Tuivasa-Scheck
Bula
Naden
Doueihi
Tupou
Brooks
Moses

That would gives us an organising halfback a running five eighth two tall fast athletic wingers two very tall & skilful centres & an awesome fullback Tigers give them more we need them.

Boring ! You dont get it ! For 10 years the side has been sliding,, For the last 5 shocking. Lot's of sheep follow the Brooks target, but superman as a half would not have looked better. Is he a great half-no! Is he a decent half - maybe. That all depends on the team around him, and i have not seen a decent team in years.
