Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

We definitely need an A class player - it would solve a lot of problems. Trouble is how do we attract one? Brown paper bags don't seem to work for us.
Mite have to use white paper bags from school canteen days and add a few school canteen sausage rolls and Pluto pups could do the trick

NRL needs a draft, but not sure how they do it without a large underlying competition, like the NFL has with the NCAA. Would need the U20s back again, at least and the RLPA signed off so it doesn't end up in court again.

Outside backs and second rowers have to be running the right lines and attacking the holes in defence and halves have to know which is the better option. So it is six of one……

i don’t think Nofo looked good at Melbourne he was not a stand out for me.

Agreed. He was still lame. He remembers my of the Albanian spy kid in one of the early Simpson episodes. Pathetic player.

The club needs to start promoting players playing well in KOE if their first grade counterparts are not pulling their weight. I mean injuries have obviously forced Sheens hand this week, but would have Laurie lined up again if he was fit? My guess is he probably would have.
We really don't have many options from our NSW Cup squad. It's a very average squad with limited potential. Kautoga would be the one we want to throw into first grade, but we'd need him to commit to the club long term for that to happen. If he has signed with the dogs he'd need to renege on that contract.
Bula is a long way off. Tasi may get a bench spot at some point. Neither can play NRL for a few months anyway. Tupou should play NRL for the rest of the season. Fainu or Feledy may get a run at some point too

Our halves are definitely a problem

One overplays his role, can't defend, fades in and out of games and doesn't lead, the other one doesn't know how to lead. Neither of them own of our attack.

If AD is the Captain material he thinks he is he would be driving our attack. He can't because he lacks to foresight to see wider than what is unfolding directly in front of him. He runs too much and stifles his support players often.

Brooks, is very similar, although he can put players away because he can see a play unfolding. Unfortunately that occurs when the ball is in hand, he just doesn't get the big picture and can't think two plays ahead.

Two reasonable players that can't communicate intent or action to their support players.
Shame they can't combine as a combination. Maybe Wakeham and Brooksy and AD at Centrr could!!!

Kautoga could be an xfactor for us this year!!!

Isn't the job of the halves (this included Doueihi as well, not just Brooks,) to execute and get the boys over the stripe? Neither of them are doing enough. We are getting plenty of field position so the forwards are doing their jobs.
Brooks created two genuine opportunities, the 40/20, the kick to the in goal. We take one of those opportunities, we win the game. Brooks cannot be blamed (but obviously is by the usual suspects including you) for the ineptitude of some of his team mates, most noticeably forum favourite Doueihi.

Correct in the context of last weeks game.

The issue is Brooks hasn't been very good and the week previously he made some shocking errors. Doueihi has been considerably worse last season and this season. The excuse for last season was he was coming back from injury but this season has shown that was a dodgy excuse.

I didn't watch the Newcastle game last night but I read a poster state that Hastings was good. Hastings was our best half last season.

We can't resign Brooks on a decent contract. We've already given Doueihi another year which is good for him but in that time we need to work out what position Doueihi should play and leave him there. If he doesn't perform he needs to be punted or as per Brooks offered a significantly smaller contract.

We need some quality halves and these guys aren't looking up to it.

I hope one of them comes good but we can't keep giving these guys opportunities. I really hope Wakeham is in the team this week at 7 and Brooks or AD are at 6. I really hope Reilly shows some form in State cup as well.

Brooks and Douehi were ineffective as halves - for the team -last week despite any individual good things either did or didn't do. When the team needed them to fulfill their roles in directing and organising the play they both failed. There is not a coach or team in the NRL that would swap their halves for either of them based on that display and we will win nothing if that's what they are going to continue to deliver.
It's not a competition to see who is better or worse between them - it's about how the team functions when they are selected in key positions.
That was not "attractive footy" - if it wasnt a reality check after drinking the cool aid over the off season about how things will be different I dont know what is.
