The play that needs to be answered...

Honestly, I hate to start another Brooks thread...

But Klemmer made a huge break...steamrolled the D...Wakeham backed up nicely, tackled about 15 out.

All the momentum with us...

Backline set to the right...last play.

And Luke went in, took it himself, and meekly surrendered into the tackle. He did not try to spread the ball, nor did he even try to take on the defenders...no kick....nothing.

He just walked into the defense and got held. Surrendered.

Why? Can anyone explain?

I have watched footy for over four decades and it was the dumbest momentum killing play I have seen.

He's a mental midget mate. It's clear for all to see. Has no confidence or footy IQ at all. His only redeeming quality is his defense.
I get all that...but even for Brooks, that was stunning.

He literally came up with nothing.

Kick?

Run?

Go quick blind side? Spread right?

He just stood there and surrendered. I have never seen anything like it in a professional team.

Even under 10s footy.

He has the game I.q of a gnat.

And how absolutely sad and pathetic is it that when talking about a 200 game half back the best compliment one could even put on the table would be 'meh, he can tackle a bit'

Should be Wakeham, daylight and Brooks playing in Group 21

Yes, I almost jumped through the screen. It was lame in every sense of the word and summed up our predicament so succinctly.
Maybe the guy has mental issues coz that was a dumbo play of the highest order, at a critical time in the game.

It was honestly stunning.

The only reason he did it was he knew he didnt have the ability in any universe to set up a try or at least kick it through to the in goal to get a repeat set but would inevitably kick it dead giving away more field position then just dying with it in his hands. Yes, thats right, even Luke Brooks knows he is garbage. Let that sink in. Even Luke Brooks thinks he is shit.

Poor play. A few things. We needed to take a tackle and get a quick PTB, we seemed to take an age to play the ball on that play after a couple of half tackle breaks. In that situation you need to just go to ground and bounce up. I also think the dogs had to be offside. Brooks baulked and took a split second to look out wide and I believe we didn’t look to be in great shape (as usual) and he then opted for the kick but was swamped. Poor play from Brooks yes but also footy IQ across the whole team was low. Standard Wests Tigers stuff.
He did not opt for a kick though...he just stood there and surrendered.

As I have said previously we should go hard at trindal. Give him an offer to good to refuse, he’d be on peanuts at the guppies.
He would be ideal.

I am not sure who his manager is, but his extension until 2025 was stunning. There are basically no halves except Moses end of 2024...so, you take the best back up half and extend him right when halves will be in mass demand? When he has the Dally M winner blocking his path...

Ridiculously dumb...

Missed the second half but this is classic Brooks.

He is quick on his feet and can do good things. However, over the years nearly every time we make a line break, he backs up the next play with a bone dead decision.

The one that comes to mind that every team nails regularly except us is the classic; Player makes a break down the left side for example and any defensive players that have made it back onside are compressed down that channel of the field.

Instead of doing the obvious and getting the ball shifted out wide right for a classic overlap simple numbers play, he almost always cuts back through the ruck and kills momentum.

His decision making is wrong nearly every time in every aspect of the game. Don’t even get me started on the regular times he is tackled leading into the last play and we got to make a kick option up or rely on AD who attracts defenders galore being the only liable option

No thank you, he may end up at Aberdeen

He got swamped because he overestimated how much time he had due to what I already outlined. I agree it was disappointing but again his teammates didn’t help. The slow PTB gives the Dogs the chance to rush up.
I watched it back and he definitely had enough time and space to do something.

It was Wakeham to Tupou to Pole....originally I thought Wakeham was tackled. Api dummy half to Brooks.

He pretended to dummy...and literally surrendered.

Honestly it just summed Brooks' career up.

He's not a halfback. Never has been, never will be. He's basically the exact same player Daniel Mortimer was, but somehow managed to carve out a 200 game career.

He should've very early on in his career been shifted into a no.14 role. Give him 30 mins a game to dart out of dummy half, test tired forwards and support ball runners. His support play to his credit is excellent and he was, and still is fairly quick. The less he thinks about what he does, the better; he's purely instinctive and that's fine, but he'll just never be a good half without being able to organise and create.
