The Roosters were so desperate for Cooper Cronk to play in the 2018 Grand Final that they allowed him to take the field with a broken shoulder.

He touched the ball just 18 times in the entire game, which is unheard of for a halfback.

His organisation and on-field coaching was that crucial to their play that they needed him to take the field, even if he barely touched the ball.

Halves are supposed to organise.

They're considered running halves because they're among the best in the game at running the ball from the halves. It doesn't imply that they can't do the other thibgs.

Both of them are often barking out instructions and setting the backline up for shifts. Both are also really good at identifying overlaps and drawing defenders.

I think it's selling both of them a bit short, especially Munster, to say they're just running halves. They both offer more and that's why it works.

Completely different players. Hughes, Munster and Steve Mortimer were all halves that were/are predominantly runners.

I'm not even sure your example is a good one. I watched that game and I didn't think Cronk was very good. The problem is that you don't and no one does know how important he was. The story is told after the event but it doesn't make it true. It doesn't mean it's not true as well.

Your example is though the main critique over Brooks. He isn't an organizing halfback ala Hastings for instance. I haven't viewed him that way for years and I've still been critical.

All I want out of Brooks is to make his tackles within reason, make minimal mistakes with the ball and run it when he sees a gap. I honestly think if he does that he can have a good season.

Johns was the best defensive halfback I’ve ever seen. His kicking game was also phenomenal and he had internationals all around him at club level. Probably the best of the lot.

This guy was the best player I've seen. He could make a bust, he could create, he had the best all round kicking game I've ever seen, he kicked goals and he hit like a second rower.

He had all those skills but he also stepped up when the game was on the line.

He won 2 premierships.

Good signs last week. They combined well given it was their first 20 mins together.

Plus the spark from the Raiders trial, even though it was only a trial. My hope is he takes all the responsibility off Brooks shoulders, then Brooks can run and do what he wants. We don't need a champion halfback just someone who does the 1 percenters kind of like a Townsend type. No frills just does his job, the fancy stuff can be done by the other guys.

This isn't true. AD has been significantly worse than Brooks for at least all of last season and this season. That is at least. AD kept getting picked in the halves and he isn't delivering. Now he gets moved to fullback. He has been moved to centre as well.

All I am going off is last season and this season. Brooks was our second best half last season behind Hastings and he has been our best half this season. It's too early to judge Wakeham.

I'm happy for them both to be gone but only if we get better.

I feel AD is as different story because I think his ego is ruining his career. I was a big fan. I think now he is looking like a worse version of Mbye.

Hmm I’m not sure on that. I think AD showed enough in patches. Dogs was his worst game of his WT career so I feel like we’re comparing different colours of shit. It’s still shit whatever the shade.

Just to add, Brooks I don't think is know as a running half, he doesnt score often from running. So I woudlnt call it a strength. Benji was a running half, he broke line often and scored often.
