How did it get worse?

you’re giving crap to two of our clubs most successful guys? yer righto if it wasn’t for Farah & Marshall this club would have no premiership & 0 finals appearances in 23 years
They both did well to win a premiership way back 18 years ago....they both have had their own agendas as well over the years,Benji in the Rugby jumper going to the Blues,Farah caught up in the JT and Potter sackings, yeah they were great players, but they HAVENT coached at this level and living off past glory is why we are 0/4,I hope it works out,but if we have to wait 18 years we are screwed....

They talked it up before a ball was thrown threw shade at the last coach disrepectfully, who to his credit has remained quiet, and now with what is considerred by most a better squad are 0 from 4 and about to face one of the form teams in the competition.
The next step can only be to sack the leaders because they have presided over years of failure backed the wrong decisions and are clearly incapable of knowing who or what is needed to fix it.

This is my biggest issue.
Sheens made some very very bold comments to which not 1 of them have happened yet.

We actually don’t even look close to the side he built us up as being.

Benji going to play Rugby was because he didn't want to play for another NRL club. And Farah wasn't even at the club anymore when JT got sacked, they actually punted Farah over JT then ended up sacking JT 3 rounds into the season anyway.

I can’t imagine many onlookers would have been impressed by the sight of the coaches box following Maguire dismissal. Seemed like those who were blue shirting in the previous game were rewarded with new suits and prime seats to view the game. 😂

Papali'i is putting in.

13 runs 113m (49 PCM)
42 tackles, 1 missed
3 tackle breaks
1 offload
1 try assist

All of our new, big-name signings are playing well. It's the guys who have been stinking it up for years who are dragging us down.

I saw another post somewhere which I totally agreed with. If you signed the players we signed to just about any other team, you are competing for a premiership that year, Yet here we are battling it out for another spoon.
no, we were coming off the worst roster we've ever had. truly terrible.

and the complacency is rife across the organisation.

it hasn't gotten worse. this team plays a better brand of football and is clearly playing for their coaches given the effort on both sides of the ball. as Sheens says though, our issues lie in the options we take, which falls on our spine.

again, outside of Laurie, Doueihi and Brooks, our players have improved. Naden (bar the poor showing on Friday in attack), Kepaoa, Tupou, Pole, Blore, Simpkin and Twal are markedly improved on where they were. our new recruits have been immense and have shown the way.

if we go to market and sign a 1, 6 and 7, we will improve. Matamua at lock is fast becoming a must also. we're really not far off.

100%.

It may not work or it may work. We don’t know. We do know what happens playing AD and Brooks. Seasons a write off (in March). Start preparing for future combo’s.
a few things that should put this into context:
- My understanding is that Hastings wanted $ 750k to stay, IMHO his value is$ 400k max
- Agree that we should kept Madden instead of Brooks

It would have cost nothing to keep Hastings this year as he was STILL under contract. We would have probably won at least 1-2 games if he was still here and Klemmer wanted out from Newie so we probably would have had both.

Sheens
*Sacked Madge without a replacement
*Put Noddy in a no win situation
*Released players for the back half of 2022 with an already depleted/poor squad
*identified Brooks as our half moving forward (despite 10 years of prior evidence) and now after 4 rounds says he is running half that the rest of the team have to set up 🤦‍♂️
*released Hasting who was the only player with any footy IQ (but not fast enough, sadly quicker between the ears than anything we have)
*brought in a ‘suggested’ attacking style of footy that at best appeared to be under 7’s pass the ball (although that now appears to be changing to 5 hit ups and kick the ball dead)

The Dolphins may have a weaker squad and had less time together but they are light years in advance of what we have delivered to date.

It’s very sad even for tigers supporters that have endured the past 10 years to hear the complete disillusionment and preparedness to walk away, despite the substantially enhanced squad.

Unfortunately I can’t see Benji providing anything different in 2 years time, so in 2028 or before there will be ‘another’ change of direction as we head for 20 years without a finals appearance

PS I hope I’m wrong

I agree. If this season so far has done nothing else, it has just narrowed down the focus as to where the key issues lie.

Whereas in the past, people would have debated whether we need a game-breaking fullback, an elite centre, top-line second rower, type-A aggressive prop or a game-managing half the most, now we clearly know what needs to be done.

Whilst it's clearly easier said than done, we need halves (and likely a fullback). Specifically one, possibly two, high percentage, good decision making halves who can execute on high-percentage plays and control territory and/or tempo.

The pack is great. But that took over a season to clean out and fix. There's some utility value in our squad. Even the backline is serviceable with Kepaoa, Naden, Tupou and Staines, certainly enough to make a run at the 8.

I think this first month, and it's been less than a month of the season mind you, has finally narrowed our focus. Only a decade too late unfortunately.

Some excellent posts on here. Great work Forum Members.

Need a quality Half Back asap.

Need to move on players who have failed WT year after year.

I bet Api and Paps are regretting their decisions to leave quality teams. Sorry guys

Papali'i being played on the wrong side of the field. Mostly steps off left foot so better served playing right edge, not left.
Welcome MJ, good observation, I think that Bateman and Papalli did swap at one stage last Friday, not sure if that was a coaches call or they just did it themselves. Would seem to me that halves need to look at some Parra videos and identify exactly how Ice was being used,
Keep up the good posts !

One stat indicates the dragons could have even worse season than us
They've conceded 40 points a game last 2 rounds .Must be weak defence

At the moment i still could not put a cent on us to beat them as even though they have a worse team than us (imho) we seem to more disorganised and uncoached
