Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

No, that's not accurate. You forget we also lost two games after the final siren, and 3-4 other games in the final ten mins.

I'm not saying we didn't get destroyed in lots of games, but even last year at our worst we were still in the hunt for at least 10 games. But threw them away by poor game management
Good point, maybe they were more competitive than I remember

This thread started near enough to 6 years ago. That’s an average of 1,430 posts a year. That means we will reach 10,000 posts by April 2024.
So, the big question is will we sign a quality halfback before we reach 10,000 posts. A quality halfback is someone who is worthy of the title such as a Cleary, Hynes or Moses (possibly).
I’m backing us to get to 10,000 well ahead of our next quality halfback signing.

As for Hastings and Bateman 1 season together at Wigan then Hastings left. Bateman did not sign here until well after Hastings had left.
But Jedi none of us apart from those in the room know what was spoken about to try and lure Bateman across. The journos as a whole are bottom feeders but when they get abit of goss it's pretty accurate. If the journos are saying Bateman won't play along side Hastings then I tend to believe it. Perhaps he told Sheens and it took Sheens that long to manoeuvre the Hastings deal, we will never know for certain

My view is we should be keeping Staines, he is a step up on what we are use to having. We need strong squads & he can also cover more than 1 spot including fullback.

Laurie isn’t a fullback same as Brooks isn’t a halfback but doubt Laurie will get a crack at 5/8th. Laurie will get a gig easy enough at another club though.
Has Laurie ever had a go at halfback?

Anyone who has watched the knights games this year will realise Hastings is absolute rubbish. Same block play every single time. Same mid field bomb with no pressure on the full back every single time. We will be fighting with the knights for the wooden spoon and I doubt we would have won any more games if he was here. We need a decent halfback and that isn’t brooks or Hastings.
They beat Tigers & Canberra with him...we beat...

It's not just identifying talent it's developing it and players/managers know that a players talent is not reached in dud teams. Kelma T has grown an arm and a leg since going to Manly.
Every likelihood the players we consistently write off go better at other clubs and that does nothing to help us attract or retain players.
I think this is an underestimated point. Very few players come here and improve. Many, many players leave and become better player. There is something seriously wrong with this club.

Interesting article from 15 March...

How long has tag team Hagi & Pascoe been on the job? Too long???

'The NRL 360 panel took aim at Tigers chairman Lee Hagipantelis for his claim that the side needed just ‘a little bit more in attack’, with Kent saying the struggling club was just ‘pretending and bull****ting to everybody’.'

I could buy into the team needs time argument if key established players were at least on par with their previous years & showing something.

Each week we looks worse.

Interesting that those more settled & experienced players who have been at the club for a min 2 seasons (AD, Stef, Nofo, Brooks, Laurie, Joffa) are actually performing at their worst.

Whilst our new recruits are our best performers each week.

We didn’t see the Sharks, Manly, Bulldogs regress with new coaches & recruits. So the time to gel aspect aligned to how bad we are performing is just an excuse to buy them more time to fix a very ugly hole they are in.

All those clubs hired relatively new coaches,we decided to hire a bloke in his 70's who has not coached at an elite level for more than a decade and has been sacked from every coaching position he has held in the last 20 years(including with us)
People wonder why it is not working i would have thought it was painfully obvious.

I'm not defending this mess of a club, but many coaching changes do take a lot of time and significant steps back. Take Cleary at Penrith, Payten at NQ and Walters at Broncos, even Sheens at Tigers version 1 as some examples of having bad first seasons and even going backwards before having success. I'm not saying we're on that path, just sometimes it does get messy first.

Interested to see how the club manages Laurie and Charlie too....

Gotta feeling Laurie won't be offered a new deal / let go.

Not sure what the plan is for Charlie though.
He seems to be decent - havent seen him at his best yet.
doubt Staines gets another contract either
