Sometimes to entice players to sign, they’ll get them to sign Development Contracts with guaranteed Top 30 options after a year or two in the Development squad. It’s a risk.

This is what happened with Lomi and it doesn’t look like it’s worked out.

We've had random low skill players in our top 30 for years.

Some never play and never look likely to play.
William Kei, anyone ?

It's a very strange thing to do and makes no sense.

We seem to be the only club stupid enough to do this. Most clubs offer development contracts and then see how things go and re-evaluate and promote to the top squad accordingly.

We try and crystal ball it and get it wrong almost every time. Almost all of our development players have been complete flops, most unworthy of NRL contracts. Our football department is the worst, most amateurish in the comp.

Not sure if he is actually in the top 30, but at least he's a young player with potential.

I'm more concerned about the likes of Reilly, Fainu, Simpkins who are all a long way from first grade.
Our recruitment has been awful for the past 5 years. We've have recruited very very few players, and those we do bring in are oversold by their agents and unworthy of a spot in any top 30 squad. Yet we keep getting swindled time, after time after time.

Fool me once shame on you, fool me 10923864870 times - shame on us....

Why didn't they do that with Kautoga .If they did he'd be still with us probably
different Heads of Football. Hartigan is responsible for the Saukuru, Ma'anaima and Kei situations, whereas Sheens and McDonnell have overseen the Pole, Matamua and Kautoga contracts. we completely bungled the Kautoga situation but the change in admin resulted in a change in tack.

What position does he play KR?
How good was he coming through the grades?
Is he past of the Sakura family that we have signed up in the lower grades?

Second row or prop.

Was a real talent coming through the grades but seems to have stagnated a bit and I can’t see him doing anything in future.

And yes, his younger brothers are Solomone and Livai (not the same Livai Saukuru that plays NSW Cup).

His dad is Joey, who is coach of Wests SG Ball.

Been saying it for years....
We give them to kids like Saukuru, Other clubs give them to young blokes that have even played NRL.
Cini over at Parra - I'd bet Dias is on a Dev Deal at Manly...
We could have a bloke like Wakeham in on a development deal atm, and still have a top 30 spot / cap space...

There's young blokes all over the place that end up at a loose end somewhere
Nth Qld is full of them....

This one was a straight up nepotism deal no way to sugar coat it. How this bloke was prioritised over Kautoga is a mystery, hell I would have kept O'Kane ahead of him.
To correct someone above. Kautoga was a Hartigan signing, which would have made his Dogs move easier.

100% agree.

Kautoga should have always been prioritised over Tumeth, Mansfield, Seyfarth, O'Kane.

Maybe it's a ploy to keep one of the other better Saukuru brothers? I've lost track of which one is related to who.

It's senseless man.
Poor decision making by the club.
Seems to be the norm tho, eh.

It's easy to slam them with 20/20 Hindsight man...

I see why they do it - It's been the only way to get talent at the club after a few baron years of development - Or lack there of.
All the kids have been very talented when signed up, Just that none have really kicked on...

If we'd have had a few more come on, It would be a genius move
- Getting kids through to NRL at a discounted rate....
Just hasn't worked out that way.

Kitione would have been one that we would have seen the light with, As with Feledy (I feel)
Bula looks likely to skip the whole process...
Rua is undecided if it will pay off - I don't see anything much in Tumeth or Webster- Mansfeild.... Fingers crossed for them, And Saukuru is a carrot signing I feel....

That’s what happens when you struggle to recruit. Last season recruitment was the best the clubs ever done. And those players aren’t letting the club down, it’s the ones that were already here that are messing things up. We may get one real good player for next year if we get lucky but even I think that’s a long shot.

True these new recruits need to keep leading by example and make the others accountable for their own work rate and lack of the 1% plays that make all the difference to a games end result. Maybe then the whole team will look and play together. Still say the team needs a big ol team bonding piss-up.
