What exactly happened in the 23 preseason...??

Apparently bateman couldn’t play straight away because he had to learn our plays. Can anyone here tell me one play or structured sequence they have seen in 5 weeks of footy? No blocks, no decoys, all one out catch and pass. This thread is so perfectly titled , what the flamin hell did they get up to in preseason !!!!!!

Bateman had to learn how to count to 200 so he could be in the passing drill.Sheens leaving no stone unturned in his quest not to win a game

We got excited 5at the boys are back in town
sheens , a Benji , Robbie , if it worked it would have been a master stroke BUT
sheens has trained the team to play a game 18 years old , didn’t take into account the players now to the players then , club fell for it , Board fell for it worse , Flanno would have this lot of guys playing much better and also would dump the duds , big mistake by the club

It’s not skill as much as it is attitude.
our backline is also shit. The fact we thought TT would be our centre says a lot!

Something went wrong in that 2nd trial against Raiders. WT looked like a team, they rolled out plenty of plays and scored tries.
There was a lot of back slapping and laughter in the coaches box, fans suddenly developed higher expectations and it very much looked like we had a team, a real team.
However, one person in the box wasn’t the least bit happy. Why?

The hard work was clearly not put in. It never is.
Our conditioning team have underperformed once again. Some of our young blokes have gotten bigger, but they haven’t increased their strength and speed.
Lateral defence has not been improved. Most players are easily beat with a simple change in direction.
The fan base was hyped up by the club with a heap of reports/stories about how good we were training and preparing. Lots of photos released of blokes flexing muscles and everyone smiling…clearly the boys were in a good place. The fans lapped it up

As many said at the time it was only a trial and to be honest we only posted points when their reggies were on.I am not sure what conspiracy theory you are trying to float

Conspiracy theory? 😂 I’m like you know absolutely nothing.
Are you now suggesting that our opponents stop us from Rolling out our plays?
Maybe you’re right?
Forget the scoreboard, we saw a team that day and have not seen a team since.

I mentioned pre season we had no halves...one injury to Brooks or AD and we literally had no one. They brought Wakeham in very late, but the planning was attrocious.

They basically bet the house on Brooks and AD having career years 'and' not getting hurt.

And now both are having career 'worst' years...and there is literally no one to replace them.

This is the major issue and I think most of us saw the problem in the pre-season. It's not just our halves either. It's the fullback as well.

Sheens and the coaching team completely stuffed up the rebuild because they completely stuffed up 3 of the critical spine positions. They've even had Benji running plays all through the pre-season on the training paddock. It blows my mind.

The thing that kills me and I've said it previously and I'll probably keep repeating myself is that Sheens states you need speed in your position and in the spine but he continually plays Doueihi who is slow in positions where he isn't suited.

Plus letting Hastings and Madden go has been a disaster.

Sheens and his team may also not be very good coaches. The team doesn't look well drilled. They didn't look well drilled under Madge either but this team is a lot better in relation to talent on the park.

In fairness Earl, Sheens didn’t want to be coach and Benji hasn’t coached before, while Robbie has a lot on his plate. The job could grow on Benji, but the other two are probably finished after 2 years?

They can turn it around right. Benji might be a good coach. He looks passionate.

I suppose though they need to make good decisions. They've made some good ones in relation to recruitment but we really need to make a whole bunch more good decisions. The bad decisions have killed us this year and to be fair last year.

We seem to have a track record of players leaving for other clubs and looking better than they looked at WT. While, coaches leave and never heard of again, the exceptions of course Cleary who has done well at Penrith and Webster who has Warriors firing.
When I correlate these 2 results coaches/players,
It seems that we generally don’t hire good coaches?
So what’s going on with coach recruitment?
