Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Why don’t we give Luke Metcalf’s manager a call?

The kid can play and is a really good 7 prospect imo

With Shaun Johnson winding back the clock and Te Marie Martin playing good footy too - also having Volkman ahead of him

I don’t see Warriors being hesitant to part ways especially with the depth they have

I’d give him the starting 7 jersey straight away over here and he’s off contract next year too…..
Metcalf is ahead of Volkman in the pecking order and is just injured at the moment.

Agree with your point though, although I doubt they'd release him.

Laurie was safe as houses when he first started with us, he diminshed so quickly, gave 150% in his first season then fell off, was never a world beater but his effort was there, I wouldn't be surprised to see him play better at another club
Look at Kelma this year at Manly - different player. Amazing the impact good players have on others around them. Laurie has done enough in a crap side to show that once in a good system he will have plenty to offer.

We’ll see MT, but don’t be surprised if he goes.

There is a difference between him leaving and them not wanting him. It’s clear they do.

If he wants to win the comp or get away from the cold he won’t get that done at Raiders, if he wants to get paid no club will beat the Raiders offer or option to play 5/8th.

Lol yes Laurie. Last years grand finalists signing our apparent reject…surely it’s for depth rather than for 1? Or is another one that got away?
Nah.
He has been such rubbish for us, I'd have zero regrets. Hasn't been close to first grade level here at all.
If he does well elsewhere on his own merit then good on him. But I doubt he will.

You are seriously comparing Reynolds playing behind the most stacked squad in the NRL and for his GF year - one of the most stacked squads in the last twenty years with Hastings playing at the Tigers and the Knights (with no Ponga)???? C'mon man - I could have multiple assists playing behind Burgess and GI!
Yes I am comparing it.

But that's not the point really. The point is I was referring to a previous poster who said Reynolds doesn't have a running game, and that you don't need an attacking halfback to win a comp, which is how Reynolds managed to win one. And I pointed out that Reynolds has multiple high-output attacking seasons at more than one club; you can hardly identify him as not an attacking threat.

It's sad that other clubs have the ambition to create a strong squad with genuine competition for spots and yet we rested on our laurels with the worst halves in the game. Utter insanity.

And despite having more room in the cap than any other club this season we opted for Wakeham on minimum wage rather than pay 300k for a metcalfe or volkman who would be genuine first team players. And yet we once again won't come close to spending our cap.

Warriors looking at Ice apparently.

Are we desperate
More I think about it more I think we should swap Papailii with Volkman if the option is there. No doubt Papailii is a better player, but much easier to find a good second rower than half…

Though they are both behind Te Marie Martin whom they signed about 6 months after they acquired both Ronald and Luke.
Cracks me up the warriors have 4 halves, the warriors FFS.
Cronulla have a few.
Souths have Hawkins and Taafe.
The bloody Titans even have Campbell behind Brimson at fullback. He is better than any of our fullbacks.

Every single club looks really good in patches this year, which means they have a spine...except us and possibly the Raiders. I've seen dog shit that is more entertaining than our attack.

There are enough spine players for an 18th team, but we have ZERO who are first grade standard.

This says more about our club than the players. I have no doubt Doueihi and Brooks would have been first grade standard had they spent most of their careers at other clubs.

I can't believe over the last 20 years WT have only developed two junior half backs of quality - Robert Lui and Mitchel Moses.

Is there issues developing quality half backs? Poor junior coaching, poor pathway systems, something is not right.
