Get Des

I think the appointment of a new coach would drive another nail in our coffin, tbh. The implications here are that the coach is the root of the problem. This may well be the case, but to sack him now (and possibly Benji) would bring back the WTigers of old, looking to apply band aid solutions to a gash wound. I would suggest having a year of weeding out who can cut the mustard (and blood as many young players as possible) is one way to go, before deciding at the end of the year whether Marshall is to be accelerated in the job. This to me would be more of a strategic move, rather than the short term, quick fix of a new coach. The downside is that we'll lose a lot more games, and cause further stress to the fans, but at least the light at the end of the tunnel won't be an oncoming train.

Do you really think with Humpty and Dumpty running this basket case of a joint that Des will make 1% of a difference
Not to going to happen to us, we’ve made our bed so have to lie in it.
I think it just shows that other people believe the old boys route ( Ryles,Young, Hornby) is not necessarily the best.

I think the role of the head coach is now, more than ever, a figurehead position. The guys like Bellamy and Bennett establish the standard of professionalism and effort that is expected on an off the field. They act as lightning rod for the media, provide positive motivation for the players to get up and do their job each week, and kick them a kick up the arse when needed too. The assistants handle the ins and outs of positional play, set pieces and even the over-arching structures of play. But even outside of the assistant coaches you have the high performance staff, you have halves coaches, kicking coaches, wrestling coaches, the list goes on.

Sure the head coach might have the final say on most things but they are more like a CEO of the team rather than a direct manager.

It would be ridiculous if Benji and Robbie aren't implementing their own style of play considering they both know 1st hand how the game is being played at the moment.

It's still very early days in this experiment but you can see the changes happening each weekend and the heads haven't dropped yet. It's disappointing that we haven't yet climbed out of the pit that has been dug over the past 10 years, but it was never going to just happen overnight. Wait and see what happens over the next few months, what other option do you have.

If nothing else it will be interesting to see how this unfolds.
The pressure will mount against Laurel and Hardy if we fail to win a game this season. And how will they justify keeping Benji if it doesn’t appear to be working?

Can u remember what happened when Potter took over from Barrett, he is so part of club latte, at the dogs last year. I think they lost a couple but the attitude of the team changed over night.

I will laugh my tushie off if it turns out Lee the wonder lawyer never inserted clauses in Sheens or Marshall's contracts and we end up having to pay them out.

How flanaghan still hasn't got a new coaching gig is criminal. He has done his time, if that grub Lodge can nearly kill a bloke in front of his wife and child and get another go there's no reason not to give him a go
Think it wasn't even a bloke he was threatening....

Not dismissing what Lodge did - Or even considering it really....
They're poles apart on principle, One is a young bloke in a stupid situation...
One is the head figure (Leader) of 30+ young blokes, Staff etc....

A bit like when a 26yr old Woman has a relationship with a 17 yr old bloke, It's not common - But not impossible, Whilst not ideal - Society moves past it.
If that 26 yr old woman is a teacher - And the 17 yr old is a student - she's looking at Jail...

You've also overlooked the part where he oversaw an illegal drugs program with his whole NRL Squad
- Some of those guys never really played again...
He shouldn't have been allowed back after that for mine, The fact most of them got off lightly for that probably helped.... There could have been 30 odd blokes who lost 4 years of a career.

His suspension was I feel are on top of that... And his obvious lack of the morals required in a coaches position.

He's obviously got some mates (In fox and around the game) Because he's got plenty of starts and he's always around....
Don't know how, He's not a real delightful human - Been plenty of assistants chose to not work under him along the way.
Everyone claims he saved the Sharks and dragged them from cellar dwellers to totally change the outlook of the club, That's not really true - I think Gallen had more to do with that, He's the one that got Lewis and a few of the other blokes there....

Either way, I certainly wouldn't be trusting Flanagan with my kids career...

I was disappointed we didn't sign him.

Wow

You know what, Id still take Lyons at 5/8 over our current lot. He might be slower these days (maybe) but he would outthink and control the game better than them by a mile

Lyons was the perfect example of a man who was not quick but very few people could match him in controlling a game of football. He was a genius on the field
