Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Yea I'm not sure mate. I've watched him pretty closely and the only thing he's good at organising is the defensive line. He is often getting in the way of attacking plays these days. He has lost his finesse. Plenty of heart and effort and has been a great player. But I truly believe if he came to us he would offer nothing.
Except a big price tag that he would expect from us,no one is going to offer us depreciation from our position at the moment

They'd all be on good money and their second tier players like trindall, dykes still better than out first grade squad. WT looks like nsw state cup in comparison. Good on sharks because they've developed a lot but they're all getting paid well.

Not every player at the Sharks would be on decent coin. But regardless, I don’t they are cheating the cap. I can see why you’re questioning it though but I don’t think they are.

Just so we are clear my comment about Fitzgibbon was not about cheating the cap, but rather him learning the ways and means of maximising your roster without a blown out budget. These are skills that Easts have and I’m sure he’s utilised some at the Sharks.
Not everything Easts do is illegal, but they do have some very savvy businessmen associated with the club, none more so than Nick Politis.

Ahh ok my bad I assumed that you thought they were cheating the cap. But I do agree that Easts have certainly cheated the cap at one point or another. Don’t know if they are still doing so but they would have at some point.

We need a 7, that is pretty clear, but I think we also need to find a 13 to take the pressure off the halves.

When we had Hastings organizing the middle (at lock or halfback) we looked so much better. I don’t think Bateman is the right fit for this. Maybe Matamua is that guy but we have to find someone.

They definitely aren't cheating the cap, they're just getting value from the players at all levels of their cap. We on the other hand get poor value from most of our big money players, and those on minimal contracts aren't even up to NRL standard

Similar story for my 57 years, though I still proudly wear one of my WT caps around.

At least we have won a premiership, and this century at that, which a few cannot lay claim to. Plus we come from foundation stock on both sides of the joint venture, and maintain a huge following despite the past decade and more.

No phins or any other for me, but a win and decent signing would help to brighten things up for us supporters
I got stopped by 7 or 8 blokes at the Easter Show today who wanted to say "go Tigers". I suppose there are still plenty of proud enough supporters out there.

God no. Tedesco will decline quickly. He has no ball playing ability and no kicking game. So as soon as he slows up he is finished. The signs are starting already.
Tigers could still use him though... you are talking as if you support Rabbits or someone else less desperate. He's as good as anyone we have in attack and will be for a few years yet, twice as good in positional play as any fullback we've attempted since he left.

Sharks already had a decent roster long before Fitzgibbon came on board. They have put alot of work in their juniors and pick up off-casts from Souths and Roosters due to location (Connor Tracey and Talakai both from Souths). I also think their recruitment is spot on most of the time (Finucane and Hynes).
They have a strong culture from when Flanagan was coach and then kept the same ethos with Morris and Hannay as coaches. Fitzy was just the icing to build on what was already there and provide stability for the next 5-10 years.
Players will go to the Sharks based on the culture already develop and the playing roster.
Tigers are a long way from what the sharks have and you need to develop within plus smart recruitment moves which suit the culture and players the coach wants to build with.
You could build this team around Connor Tracey (at cheap rate - basically like what Sharks did with Hynes). I would try and get him this year and partner with Brooks.
Need to look at impact players for the bench and outside backs (Kayal Iro is one). Wins and how the club plays will always attract players. Paying overs for players past their prime is not the way forward and for that i am scared with McDonald in charge of recruitment. Get that bloke out of the way and we might have a better chance.

We need Luke Garner back!!! A great lock for us!!!

We got the privilege of investing in his development for the roosters to benefit from his prime and then we’d get the privilege of paying him a 1.5m retirement package just to help the roosters out again. Other teams must love doing business with us.
Still he’d be our best player.

The halfback that Sheens should be faxing is Jordan Abdull from Hull KR.
Forget all the talk of Sezer, Williams etc. Abdull outplays those guys every week.
He's 27, served a long apprenticeship and was picked for England in 2021.
He's at his peak.
Added bonus the team gets to sing Abdul Abulbul Amir after every win.
Jordan Abdull, welcome to Wests.

I know you read my suggestions Sheensy so here's some good advice.
When you sign Jordan Abdull subcontract the process of getting him a visa and into Australia to the Gold Coast's front office. They can get poms here in 2 weeks, if you leave it to our front office he'll be here in round 8 2025.
