Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Tui Lolohea is an interesting one. If he is fit and has his weight under control, he could actually be a superb option at five eighth. At 27 he is in his prime, has spent time playing 7 which has taught him to take on the responsibility of a team, holding him in good stead to return to the NRL as a 6 where he can have a mix of natural flare but also identifying when to play controlled and high percentage plays.

Skill wise he is the ideal 6 we are looking for, it's just a matter of how much has he matured and how fit is he.

Anyone know how he is going in SL and how fit he is?
Tui is not the answer.
He's still fat .
He's going pretty much the same as he did with us. He does some things that look good then he'll follow up with a brain explosion.
If he's the answer we need to ask a different question.

Of course he’s not the answer. Not sure why we are revisiting him as an option,

I can't see Schuster coming to Tiger town, didnt Manly basically hand him the 6 jersey on a silver platter by getting rid of Foran, why would he come to the Tigers

Who knows.

They got Latu Fainu but haven't heard much of him lately

Maybe if Marshall is an idol of his or something but even then it would be a stretch.
Funny you should say that because he is ….

New Manly No.6 Josh Schuster has only played one game with Daly Cherry-Evans in the halves in a starring debut that caught the attention of his idol and opposite number Benji Marshall.

Marshall playing in his last season for the Tigers in 2020 was in awe of Schuster’s ability, labelling his debut the best he had ever seen.

“I’ve got to say - the kid on the other team, it was the best debut I’ve seen from a young kid in my time, ever,” Marshall told Fox League after the game.

Yes and to think Bennett had some trouble getting marquee players to sign up. Things will be different next season, the sky’s the limit for this new club. Could end up being another Melbourne and have instant success.
Re Dolphins... I was thinking why are they successful and we are not.

Klemmer is solid.
Paps is good.
Bateman is good.
Api is good.

None of these players have played together before. The only people we have had are James Tamou and Api... ofcourse Tamou left.

Looking at the dolphins, they have both BRomwich's. They have players that have played a little together. Clearly Wayne Bennett is the supercoach, but we have undervalued players having experience of playing together and it shows.

We have a team that does not feel like anyone has played any football together at all.

Recruited the soul out of the Cowboys team from last year as well.

It’s actually somewhat remarkable the degree we are better in the 2nd half. Was looking at stats over the last 10yrs and haven’t seen anything like it, we are absolutely going against the grain considering we aren’t winning any games. It’s really strange looking at our stats even down to forward efforts etc.

It would be really interesting to see what happens if we can convert our great field position & ball positioning early on in games and lead at halftime how we hold up.
Prehaps all the movement in the first 20 on the oppositions goal line actually wears the teams out a bit. Sheens goal was to move the ball and we do it a fair bit. We are heavily criticised in those moments for not coming up with anything on the scoreboard but we do manage to get over the top of teams in the second half.
The big problem and it’s fairly consistent in all our games is we give up on our defensive assignment after having all that possession. We basically take the foot off the throttle and cruise and that’s when we lose the games.
Titans scored within 2-3 sets of us constantly attacking our goal line.
Melbourne similarly when a couple of errors let to possession being handed over.
At those times we seem to drop our heads rather than get back into the grind.
In fact that’s what we are lacking, the ability to grind.
We can dominate early, we can chase but we can’t get tough through the middle stage of the game.
That’s not physical fitness, that’s mental fitness

Can't count how many times Benji has said that over the years for different players

We haven’t been able to grind a game in 11 years!

Frankly I’d say since ever. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the Tigers play a grinding game. Actually in 2018. Cleary brought the grind into the side and it stayed in 2019 under Madge’s first year but once the players recruited by Cleary had retired or were replaced by younger alternatives and Madge was getting more and more pressure to open up the attack that mental state of play went out the window.

No doubt Marshall rates him, that doesn't necessarily mean Schuster will come across though.
