Doueihi does ACL again

As Ive said elsewhere got to be serious in recruitment and retention. He's not coming back realistically for most if not all of his contract with us. Pay him out and atleast get usage of another spot in squad now. Try and get some releif from the NRL salary cap wise and if Doueihi feels so in a little bit after a few more weeks seek to medically retire him if he agrees.

His decision to take a 1 year contract and back himself has backfired on him big time.

Feel for the guy as the recovery will be difficult and he’ll be coming into a contract year.

I think he was reportedly on 600k? If you pay him this year and next, that still comes off the cap so you would only have room for a minimum wage spot? I suppose that’s better than nothing. I don’t believe there’s scope for cap relief. That’s why you have 30 spots in your roster. NRL will say bad luck. Unless he is retired (which I’m not confident he’ll do being young and ambitious).

Can't see too many NRL clubs being interested in him when he gets back, if that's not until 2025 or close to. He might have no choice but to retire.

Look he could come back in England...

But yes, opening the spot could be useful. I suspect his payments now don't come under the cap.

Hope Doueihi and his manager are realistic. No more halfback or back row anything.
Best bet is he muscle up and become a forward or second row. Forget Australia and go for England.

With GI and Sam Burgess coming back after being medically retired, I wonder if we can go down that avenue as well. I think this 12-16 months "timeline" might be to get that done.

ACL rehab is 9 months minimum and if nothing major goes wrong, it's 12 months. 12-16 months, esp for a revision seems excessive and probably they've submitted some sort of paperwork for salary cap exemption with that timeline in there.

Of course but that doesn’t necessarily stop someone trying to resurrect their career? There are rare success stories where people can come back to succeed against all the odds. I mentioned in a post earlier today that there are no winners out of this situation. Tigers effectively lose a roster spot and cap money for 2 seasons and the player has another major set back in their career (albeit well paid!).

I don’t think there’s any motivation for douehi to put up his hand and retire at this point, unless he has an aspiring career change lined up. Perhaps the stronger clubs could manipulate that situation better?

Pretty sure the payments do come out of cap still. That’s why you get 30 roster spots in the squad.

I think some on here are missing the very important point, sure we all wish AD the best and speedy recovery,BUT he has had his 3rd ACL injury and I cannot see another club employing him after he leaves the WTs,with his extention he was given,it is almost a write off if the injury is a severe one...
Look at it this way,I have been involved with racehorses for about 20 years,I have seen $150,000 horses with great potential breakdown with bowed tendons and other injuries that affect their ability to run, they get fixed after 12 months and dont come back as well as they were before the injury, often they end up at the picnics where they sometimes cant even place in an event, the knackery or at pony club ...the kid who gets the horse for pony club pays about $1500 for the horse, which is 1% of the value paid for the horse originally let alone another $30,000 for training fees before the breakdown...
So what Im saying would you at the WTs or any other club pay top dollar for a crock that may not even last a couple of games.???Dont forget we keep getting told that this is a business, buying a broken down wannabee 5/8 for $900,000 that he claimed he was worth,to me is BAD business...
