Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Even had the farce of Demitriou saying his high profile players would take a pay cut to get Wighton. What absolute bs.

It's a joke right. They'll leave to play union overseas for $5 per week more.

How do the lower clubs have a chance ?

We simply can't operate under the salary cap because the top clubs aren't. We've actually recruited well but every week we've had the weaker team on paper. Until we fix this we are not going to win games. It's also been this way for years. It compounds.

What makes it worse is that all the changes follow the same process and that is dressing up a pig. It's false hope until we get a team that looks better than the opposition on paper every week.

I would try to get Hunt, Pearce or Townsend for a couple of seasons. Look to blood a rookie 5 8 alongside them. Brooks and Wakeham to piss off at year's end.
Yeh, I'm starting to think that a 2 year, very experienced, interim halfback alongside a rookie or up and comer, then re-assessing the market in 2025 is probably our best, and most realistic solution moving forward.

All the classic names have been mentioned, both experienced options and possible up and comers.

Unfortunately, we've assembled our best forward pack in club history for a specific window of 3/4 years and it has coincided with both a rubbish half situation and an NRL-wide quality half shortage.

It's kinda typical I guess.

WT and most other clubs should back Raiders up on this- couple of clubs get away with murder to the detriment of 80% of the clubs, the league and the fans.
No nrl club cares about any other. If it doesn’t concern them they won’t lift a finger especially because of the jelly backs at nrl HQ. The only one I’d be talking to is vlandys but there’s a 70% chance he won’t give a toss.
The only club that I think that would try and drive the knife into south’s is roosters but that would be ironic wouldn’t it

I hope sheen’s doesn’t falter and wait for an experienced half. Imo getting someone out of reserve grade or fringe first grader only has a limited chance of working . Especially with a young fullback and another half needs help already

OK what is everyone's thoughts for next season if these two became options as that experienced half to provide that direction & backline leadership we lack. I have a feeling it'll be one of them?

Mitchell Pearce (35 next year) or Chad Townsend (33 next year)

I dont necessarily disagree that based purely on ability a Brooks on a cheap contract at 6 with a dominant 7 is a decent option but one of the main things holding us back is the stink and gossip surounding the club which unfortunately Brooks is a major contributing factor

so getting rid of Brooks might not help us on the field but it helps our recruitment alot more
100% it does, no young half is going to come here and play second fiddle to Brooks, who never ever gets dropped, he needs to go

I'd take the Chad, has been 7 in a number of good teams and never stood out, but if Api continues his form and Tupou and Bula continue to develop then he could bring it together for us without having to be a star. We also can go for a Livewire or unstructured 6 as the Chad will be passing and kicking only. I'm not excited by the Chad, but I'm also not worried about him if we have an exciting 1 and 6.

Pearce had this opportunity at Newcastle and fluffed it, plus is more likely to be off the pace given his age and time in France.

All a Joke

We had Hastings, Sheens needs to take responsibility.

Halfbacks like American Quarterbacks make or break a Team

The NRL did squat when Teddy and Latrell took $500k a season less to join easts and souths
Agree,

Its criminal - The Whole league knows it happens.

Independent sponsorship, Jobs for relatives, Mystery bank deposits.

Wendell Sailor Said on TripleM Radio that He would have these Mystery bank deposits of ~20K just turn up. He assumed tis happened to his clubmates and that no one ever talked about it.

I heard International Dell say that on MMM. The payments would just turn up in his mortgage account, so other “unknown persons” were effectively paying his mortgage. Likely arranged by the Clydestales, the group of sponsors, businessmen and former players.
