Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I'm open minded on Schuster. Yes he looks out of shape but he also had 3 try assists in the Parramatta game alone. Luke Brooks has two for the season. We really don't have a dynamic game breaker on our books.

That's the problem with quoting stats, they aren't really true. Brooks is listed as 2 try assists because only twice he came up with the last pass or kick, but in reality he has set up at least 2 others that I think of off the top of my head. His pass was the money ball for AJ's try against Parra, and the money ball for Staines' try against Manly. Both of those were definitely the try assist play in my eyes.

I agree though, I'm open minded about Schuster. Could be a disaster, but could also be a winner.

Agree. He could become a BJ Leilua or he could become an international.

Needs to have the desire and work ethic. Only those around him know the answer to that.

Sometimes a game-breaker for the opposition, unfortunately.

He still is net positive unlike our current options.

People focus on his weight / training issues.

The kid lost 12kgs in the off season and then put weight on.

This isn’t just on Josh the Manly club clearly haven’t been managing him during the injury period which the club has a long history of not managing injured players well. Over the years Manly whilst drive a tough man motto via Spud have struggled to keep injured players on the park especially high profile/key players.

Personally I think he's a backrower and nothing else. I think any attempts to have him trim down to (and maintain) 5/8th weight are doomed to fail. I think constant opposition pressure and too much structure bring Schuster undone.

I think you want the ball in Schuster's hands after the setup has already been done by someone else, including tactical kicking and getting the defence out of shape. Then you give him good early ball in attack, allow him to carry a bit of weight, and let him play off the cuff.

Problem is I don't think you'll ever pay 5/8th money for a backrower, and at just 21 years old, it remains to be seen whether Schuster would accept that "demotion". He might well consider himself a half, same problem we had with Hastings (who I still believe is a better lock than halfback).

This.
💯

Backrow or lock.

Interesting new signing just announced from Queensland Cup. Wynnums Troy Pelliw 26yo fb, centre or half back signed to end of 2024.
May play KOE this weekend.
Anyone got feedback on this guy ?

If Rumours are true and Sam Walker to cowboys.
Townsend to Tigers
Schuster to tigers
Flannagan to Manly

2024 spine
9. Api
7. Townsend
6. Brooks
1. Bula
13. Schuster

Would prefer to see Brooks get signed as a 6 not 7

or
9. Api
7. Brooks
6. Schuster
1. Bula

not so keen on Schuster as a 6 though

remember Siebold stuffed up the Broncos... over complicates things.
Schuster would work well under Sheens and benji as that ball playing lock.

Where did you see this rumour @Jedi_Tiger ?

I just can't see Roosters releasing Sam Walker as he will be long-term halfback once Keary retires this season or next.

It was Mick Lubinskis and the magpies lost the 2 points I was there at belmore oval
It was 1975 7-7 draw - Wests had the 1 point deducted and it cost them a place in the semis. Because of the deducted point they ended up in a 3 way tie for 5th - playoffs were used rather than F/A to settle 5th place. Parra won three way playoff. So Wests missed out because of point deducted. Funny thing is had they used F/A Wests would have got in as they had much better F/A than Balmain and Parra.

I see Souths had 14 players on the field for 14 seconds.

I remember quite a long time ago I think ironically a player Balmain bought from West called Lubinskas was on the field for about the same time, and the 2 points Tigers won were stripped from Balmains points.

WONDER WHAT WILL HAPPEN HERE, I WILL BET NOTHING.
Interesting article from 2009 about illegal players on the field.

This is how Schuster was described to me as a lazy minded with a pea heart for hard work who walks around at Manly thinking he is a football god hardman. Apparently the biggest issues is his off field mates and there
influence they have on him,

in NFL terms they would describe him as a boom or bust prospect, and based on current form the bust prospect sums this player up, Buyer beware.

Agree with that. I don’t see him as a 5/8th either but others seem to think he is.

I think i have found the article of the year .. !!

From .. "The Betoota Advocate"

It’s over.

Put a fork in the 2023 NRL Premiership because it’s done.

The Wests Tigers are going to win the Grand Final in the first weekend in October, and end their 18 year premiership drought.

This comes after the club beat the two time defending premiers the Penrith Panthers in Bathurst over the weekend.

Faced with appalling conditions and playing with a man down for a pivotal period of the game, the Tigers overcame all adversity to prevail 12-8 winners on the night.

While that win does mark their first of the season, the club is now set to face the Dragons, Bunnies, Cowboys, Raiders and Titans in the next five games.

That dream run will roll into games against the likes of the Storm and the Sharks during the Origin period, with the merger club now all but certain to end their finals drought which has dragged on since 2011.

The only threat to a top four finish is losing at least half of their team to the Origin arena – with Api Koroisau and Luke Brooks all but certain to be in Sky Blue in a month’s time.

Given the recent results it seems highly likely that the majority of the backline will be called upon by Brad Fittler, with the club’s depth to be tested.

However, once they navigate that period, it will be all eyes on tearing through the September schedule and knocking over the Bunnies or the Panthers in the Grand Final.

That Grand Final win will come as welcome relief to the club who have spent the last 5 years of dreaming of nothing more than a 9th place finish.
