Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Schuster should be a direct replacement for doueigh. I don't think there is a reason to overcomplicate it.

We've got enough talent in lock and 2nd row. We need a half. If Brooks can keep up this form, extend him, or look to replace with someone like Hunt.

If we can swap talau to get him early, we should do it. We have no depth in the halves. Make sure there are performance incentives in the contract.

I'm going to throw out there an immediate three-way hypothetical:

Josh Schuster to Wests Tigers
Daine Laurie to Bulldogs
Kyle Flanagan to Manly

Our recent NSW Cup acquisition of Tony Pellows gives us some depth at fullback if this happens & we also have Starford T'oa who is a decent fullback.

Gus made it pretty clear that nobody has spoken to his boy about a move to the Silvertails. He was pretty emphatic at the time (but then again his lips were moving so he is just as likely to be telling porkies).

That could be a good mid season exchange - if only they all had the same manager!

A mid-year swap of Talau and Schuster does seem to make a bit of sense for both parties.
We supposedly have spare cash in the cap this year, and I think Manly are desperate to get another centre to keep Harper out of their 1st grade side.
Our outside backs depth is pretty thin again with Staines and Naden out for multiple weeks, but in saying that the halves depth is even more stretched, if Brooks or Wakeham go down we could be in big trouble.
It's a big risk to the culture, but I think the leadership at the club is in a really good place right now and it's a risk with a big reward. I would do the deal for this year and try and pay a bit of next years money. It's not catastrophic if it doesn't pay off. $800k for a spine player is not ridiculous in today's market.
If we released Talau we'd be very light on outside backs especially after releasing Maumalo and Staines' long term injury. If we end up needing to use Reilly in the centres in first grade we're in deep trouble.

Idris got fat, lost interest in the game & left the NRL to travel the world.

Schuster gets hurt a lot.
I liked Jamal, but you have to remember Jamal was a runner, who came to dogs training and got picked up.
He once said he wanted to win MOTM so that he could use the $2000 to buy a Kombi and tour the north coast.

What's Schulster's motivation?

It's a difficult situation because we need a gun but we cannot CANNOT take an attitude problem. I could see Schulster at center or even a ball playing lock.

IT appears that most of manly (18 players) are signed to Issac Moses!! I believe Schulster isn't and if that's the reason behind all this. come on over....

Yet what is the price and Years. 2 years. Yes please. 4 No way. 400k Yes. 600k ~ probably not.

Lol.

(The rest of the post would be a jackpot for us)

He's the most straight-faced liar in the game. I don't mind Gus actually, but he learnt long ago that there's nothing to be gained from being open and honest in NRL world.

We are not the type of side that can turn players around. Schuster would be just another Leilua.
I reckon we have re-signed Brooks on the quiet, and if we get Schuster, Brooks will play 7.

I want to see Riley given an opportunity in first grade. What do we have to lose ?
He’s good in defence, and looks quick if he gets in open space.

I don’t know where Laurie will end up, hope he stays but can see him being shown the door.

Reilly can't tackle, and not a very dangerous ball runner.

I don't see the thing with this guy, he just seems lazy, has all the skill in the world, without the self awareness or discipline to avoid KFC. You would think he would take things more serious seeing as how Forun was let go for him.
In all fairness, he does see "KFC" very often in a big red rectangle each weekend.... *

It's mind control I tells ya! The poor guy doesn't stand a chance! 🤣

* to be clear: it's on the back of players who've run past him...

Now this transfer deal could have some legs
Issue is with Staines out we probably need to keep Laurie or we have zero fullback options but if we play the long game them great.
Pellows isn’t a nrl backup fullback.

Alternative would be to trade TT to Manly instead

We seem to be getting excited about a guy who last year was overweight unfit and error prone .Then this year after initially trimming down had backtracked so much so that Manly aren't even picking an 800 k back / utility .
If we take a guy who has a bad attitude elsewhere and comes to Tigers and straightens himself out .It will be a first !
Normally it's the other way around

If manly don’t want to play him because he’s got issues, why in the hell would we take him. Would be worst move if tigers took him on, you just gotta listen to what cherry has said

If we have a chance to get Schuster I would offer trade for TT asap and then front load his deal given we aren’t using the cap this or next year.

We have zero inbound next year and currently we think our halves suck now - well next year we have zero signed so they can get worse.
I really think the sea eagles would throw in a little bit to get rid of him , if they paid $150,000 to $200,000 I would think that is a good deal for us
