Jahream Bula #269

Shuffling your feet at the scrimmage like that
is basketball training 101. But whatever bro

Helps that he's got a really good vertical
leap as well. I don't think it's being blown
out of proportion when we talk about him -
he's a great athlete because of it, he made
the switch back to league only recently &
he's named after arguably the GOAT Jordan
End of 2019 he was a Keebra Footy Academy graduate, signing with the Titans.
2022 he’s playing footy for Wests Tigers…

Less than 2 years trying his hand at Basketball opposed to his time in League is blowing it out of proportion…
The way it’s being written is like he never seen a footy.

😂😂😂

For sure - Plenty of catching high egg shaped balls off the foot in the wet in Basketball...
The basketball thing has been well blown out of proportion....

He's played Footy forever, Not a lot at Fullback I believe - But he has more Footy miles at decent levels coming through than Basketball...
We can use a reliable goal kicker, maybe he can slam dunk a few over the black dot.

He’s a young bloke playing sports, and all the sport he plays growing up goes into a more well rounded athlete. I think you guys are having a wasted debate. He played a lot of footy and a lot of Basketball.
I met a bloke up at Port Macquarie last Friday who is his Dad’s mate apparently? Reckons we are on a good thing with him and his old man was a tough footy player.

Exactly....
It's not much of a debate - Just mentioned the media is blowing the Basketball thing out of proportion,
Reading up on it - You'd wonder if he'd ever played footy....
All Sports kids play plenty of different sports coming through.

Think his Uncle played union at some respectable level also.
Good kid,

I think he has been outstanding in his first two weeks of first grade.
The best part for me is watching him in attack follow Api from the ruck as this is where good sides capitalise and we need to do more to score points. Good passing and short kicks also has me looking forward to see how he progresses.

Happy for the win and he can learn our song with a few more wins

Only two games in but he's not looking out of his depth. I know a win is a compilation of individual moments by everyone in the team but that tackle on Cleary was stellar and reflective of his attitude and those sorts of individual efforts lift the team. Even last week against Manly when he dropped the pill his first reaction was to regather instead of standing there kicking stones waiting for a Manly player to gather and stroll over to score.

I think people need to rember he's not a finished product and that while the past 2 games were good he's bound to have a shocker or 2 this year so keep your expectations realistic

Is he the fastest at the club?

Surely he’d have to be odds on to get his first meat pie on Sunday …

My prediction api scheming through some weak defence with bula in support

SMH.COM.AU - Why Cleary is a new fan of rookie Tigers No.1 Bula

By Christian Nicolussi

April 30, 2023 — 12.06pm

The only thing Jahream Bula butchered on Saturday night were the words to the Wests Tigers’ team song that had not been sung in forever.

The rookie fullback has quickly become a fan favourite – and can now even count Penrith superstar Nathan Cleary as an admirer.

Bula played a huge role in Saturday night’s upset of the year over premiers Penrith in wet and wild conditions in Bathurst.

It was the Tigers’ first win of the year and their first victory in 273 days.

Bula sheepishly told this masthead he was literally lost for words when it came to singing the team song, and he had to “mumble the whole time”.
sions were high, threw a pass for David Nofoaluma’s 100th career try, forced a dropout, and came up with a try-saving hit on Cleary nearing the hour mark.

Cleary cringed when reminded about the incident.

“He did well; it was ugly [from me],” Cleary said.

“I relaxed and thought I would slide over in the wet. But he tackled me well and the ball spurted out. It was a good tackle. I should have held the ball.

“He’s a good player, and he’s definitely built for first grade. He came up with a good pass for their try as well. He has a lot of confidence.”

Bula said he simply put his body on the line, and was grateful to come up with the tackle.

In just his second game in the NRL, Bula, a former basketball star, said he was still getting used to the physicality and getting dragged backwards when carting the ball up, while coach Tim Sheens simply wanted him to keep trying to support the forwards around the ruck.

Not since James Tedesco departed the club at the end of 2017 have the Tigers been able to settle on a regular No.1. But Bula already looks like the long-term solution to the all-important role.

Some at the Tigers remain convinced had Bula been available for selection from round one, the club would have won two or three more games because of his fitness and ability to cover ground at the back. He was only upgraded from a development contract and became free to play in the top flight a fortnight ago.

Even Luke Brooks, who was arguably the best on ground against the Panthers, loved Bula and said: “To be in your second game, and knowing Cleary has one of the best kicking games in the NRL ... he stood under them and got us out of trouble. He’s a great young kid with a big future.”
Both Nathan and his dad gave credit to our blokes after the game as did Jake Turbo after the Manly game. Not something that happens much these days-opposition giving any credit to the other mob. Great to see.

The kid looks good but the hype is over the top atm.
Too true.
The lad has played 2 matches, for goodness sake.
When I heard the lady on Fox refer to him as a Superstar after the Panthers win, I cringed.
Promising, emerging, yes all that, whatever, but let's get real.
Mind you as Wests Tigers fans - we really want him to grow into our best fullback since Teddy, we want him to fly etc, but all in good time without the weight of him being the next Teddy, the next Slater etc.
