Yea I noticed that too. Hopefully both Sheens and Brooks learn from that. I shook my head when the commentators said it. Trust Luke to take it so literally that he does it first set. I'm sure Sheens didn't mean for that.

We just need to find a controlling half and sign up Luke to a reasonable contract and release all that pressure on him and stop telling him that it's his team.

Maybe we should even put the #6 on his back just in case that #7 has been affecting him psychologically all this time, don't even let him put a ball in a scrum, wouldn't mind betting that he could cause the opposition a bit of damage as first receiver from a scrum.

Been saying it for years. Just take the 7 off his back for the psychological effect. You don't have to change his game, just the number and I bet the pressure will ease.

I've got no problem with running it on the last and handing it over 10 metres out in the corner and only giving the opposition 6 tackles, but that is where you have to back your defence and self discipline not to give a penalty away.

Certainly doesn't hurt to mix it up a little with a kick to the corner for your outside men just to keep the opposition on their toes and guessing what is going to happen.

My guess is that he wants them running on the last to teach the halves to actually look at what is going on in front of them. Sheens is an old school coach who will put you on the path to success without telling you exactly how to walk it.

Brooks for most of his career has simply done what the coach asked of him without thinking for himself. It's why he appeared to be a low IQ half for so long. Now the coaching team are challenging him to actually use his brain without giving him too much feedback. We are seeing improved performances. I like what I am seeing.

I'm only referring to the first set of 6 after half time where we ran it 40 metres out from the Dragons line and put us under immediate pressure. I'm not talking about those times close to the try line where we turn it over in a corner. I understand those to a degree.

I think it's a good tactic when coming into halftime or leading by a small margin at the back end of a game. Allows time to set your defensive line and pin a team down, no risk of giving away a 7 tackle set and risking a player getting off to a quick restart and getting their team into an attacking position.

Just remember Suncorp slopes quite heavily to the City side .....once the ball starts heading that way it is hard to get it to pull up

It definitely has a time and place. My concern is we still aren’t scoring enough. We have 2 wins but we scored less than 20 in both.

I think our last tackle options are too conservative. We either put a bomb into the corner which we don’t contest or we run close to the line. We have a massive winger and we rarely kick to him.

At the very least if we are going to run on the last we need to throw a bit more at the defence, not just shift to the centre to surrender.

Similarly against Manly and Penrith, particularly when leading, and just a tactical choice under the current rules.

It is a bit like the pros and cons decision making process of kicking short or long from drop-outs, though in this situation, teams are also balancing possibly giving away a 7 tackle set from the middle through a slightly off kick, or stalling them in a corner with a set defensive line.

Either way, 9 matches into this season and WT have conceded 23 points per game on average. Not great because of the donkeys hiding, and sadly we have been scoring less, but a hell of a lot better than the 30% worse off defensively the side became under Maguire.

I think that’s also being prompted by the amount of short dropouts. Rather than give the other team a breather and option to get the ball back they make them run it out when they are gassed. Not sure I agree at the moment, but maybe as the build combinations and hurt teams it will be the better option.

Just re- watched the Dragons game and I will say Brooks had a fantastic game. Every kick was pin point, had a role in all 3 tries, he made 3 or 4 half breaks where it was a couple of fingers on his collar that stopped him breaking clear, cleaned up a dangerous kick with effort sweeping around, tackled brilliantly, passed well getting early ball to his outside men and setting up his big men - controlled the game. He plays like he has the last few weeks moving forward and I'll have him resigned for 3 more years. Once Douehi was out of the team and Brooks took back being the main man he has been so much better

I think he went quite in the second half with his runs and that's probably the period where they will have the most effect but that's me being nitpicky

I thought we wrestled it back towards the end, look like they ran out of puff before us.
Still even though we were getting beat for a while we were still able to stay with them, unlike years gone by we would have had 20 put on us during that period.

Did Luke finish year 12 high school ?
