Luke Brooks #167

Winston your right,at the time we ended up with the one least wanted, and have been holding that end of the stick ever since, but now is not the time to dump him, think we need him now more than ever
Yes it’s quite the pickle we find ourselves in.
I have wanted him gone for years and now am staring down the reality that we can’t afford not to re-sign him.
Interestingly, he may decide to sign elsewhere this time, screwing us again, albeit in a different capacity.

Wouldn't be a wild old ride for you boys being able to bag him for the first half of his career for staying at Wests Tigers,
Only to turn around and bag him for the rest of it for leaving Wests Tigers....

Like I said, it’s a weird position to WANT to re-sign a middle of the field talent, but that’s where we are.
No one else will touch us.

Nice revisionist history there. He was signed on dumb money by the numpties at HQ as a knee jerk reaction after the other 3 of the big 4 gave the Tigers the middle finger. Better to at least get 1 huh? Was pretty much the reaction at the time. Not a single person with any idea about league or the well being of the Tigers (now proven correct since his re-signing) was happy the weakest of the 4 was the one they kept.
Not a single person eh?
There was not a better 7 who wanted to come. The future of the cap looked very miserable and signing Brooks for $550k for the next 2 seasons was considered a master stroke by Pascoe who raved about his brilliant move.

IMHO, our ex-coach could not do changes that Sheens done in just few months (Pole, Tupou, Bole, Kopaoa, Matamua, James etc.), also To'a is suddenly a world beater!
Are they all "reserve players"??
He preferred mediocre has-beens like Matulino, Packer, Roberts, J Lailua etc. ??
At best, his performance with us is as mediocre as the players selected for HIS team.
I agree with all that you said except Matulino, he was a good player, made a big difference when he played. He played 36 games in 2 seasons, and when he was finally busted, he let the club medically retire him before his contract was up, I have nothing but respect for the bloke

It was the 4 year extension on way over market value money Madge gave him after that 2 year deal which was the killer

He was very good for the NZW, imho he did not play for the WT at that level, he was certainly better then Packer, but far from Krammer.
IMHO, Krammer is the best established prop we signed as the WT:
Krammer > Matulino, Galloway > Blare, McCracken > Harris, Packer, T Grant etc.

When Schuster was in the clear after about 10 metres he was looking for someone to pass it too. If he was a runner he could have finished off the play with a try.
Really? Wakeham almost fainted when he took that intercept and MAJEWSKI rounded him up over 20 metres ,,, and Wakeham is or was a little speedster… schuster has it all,,, if they could get him fit as a fiddle and strong he could be anything as a 5/8 … combo of Daley and Cliff Lyons

Well, As well as a douchebag - You're wrong - AGAIN!!
I'd prefer you didn't bother to respond to my posts at all...
Nothing you say is of any relevance...

It wasn't a knee jerk reaction at all...
He was looking to sign and get it done, Held out by his management while the other 3 were shopped, So much so - There was friction with his management at the time.

I believe it's you that knows SFA about Footy...
And the only revisionist here is you and the rest of clown alley.

You said the other three were shopped. Certainly not by the Tigers. So you mean by their own managers? Isn’t that every good player managers job?

He was the weakest of the 4 back then and that ain’t revisionist history. And so it’s evident that in all these years, Brooks manager couldn’t get him a better deal than he has here. Which is no surprise.

And Batboy, squillions of people whinged when Brooks got that contract. And it was because of football. He was bog average before and he has been even worse since. Forget his inept teammates, he himself has played crap. That whinging was very, very justified.

He simply never deserved that contract which is regarded as the most foolish, reckless and negligent use of a clubs salary cap in the whole league. Our management became the punchline of all jokes and the laughter at our expense has never abated.

Yes he’s has two good games in a year, so now you’re saying that because he has a few good teammates that it justifies his contract?
Sam Bowie had a few good games too, with a hall of fame teammate he even made the playoffs. Do you think that satisfied Blazers fans?

All teams make recruitment and contract mistakes. Cest la vie.
Brooks won’t go down in history like Sam Bowie, but he’s still a bust.
Even fans who know SFA about basketball appreciate that.

Is that Cozmo you are talking about

With our incredible stats this year, time in possession, completions, time in the opposition 30 etc Possibly the constant call for a game managing half is not keeping up with the development of the squad. Brookes has kicked well, with multiple timely touch finders, 40/20s, 7 tackle sets not given away etc. The smart kick dead at the end of the Panthers game.

The problem has been converting possession in the 20 to points. Surely that's Schuster's strength.

Yea, no way we are talking Brooks -> Shulster..

It would be Wakeham -> Shulster... Which kinda sucks as Brooks + Wakeham is actually working.

Ofcourse if we could get cap relief for Doueihi then maybe we can keep them all.

Wasn't the two years of 550 2018 and 2019? Which he signed in 2017 during the big four saga? He then got this current massive four year contract by Madge in 2019 for 2020-23.
Yes, I remember it being reported that he would sign the 4 year contract at the same rate for the first 2 years.
What is the massive contract youre talking about?
