Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

With Joffa leaving and Simpkin, Laurie, Blore and Nofo on the chopping block, it looks like we have significant cap space for next season. I would assume over 2 million based on the Moses offer and the others leaving.

Based on who is currently available/off contract, Frizell and Averillo are the two I would like to see us sign. No other off contract players really stand out.

From there we should be looking for another half currently on contract and see if we can somehow get an early release. Might have to wait until the off season as more players seem to become available once the season is over (similar to Klemmer and Bateman last season).

Can’t agree, Hunt would be perfect for us. If we had him at 7 this year we would have probably 8 more points by now. We desperately need a organising no7 and he is close to the best in the business. Bulla and Brooks would have a field day playing outside him.

Of course we all see things differently but I rate Hunt probably higher than Moses, although you don’t get the goal kicking with Hunt

McDonnell gone. And lots of theatrics from the Telecrap.

Wests Tigers have parted ways with one of Tim Sheens most loyal lieutenants, recruitment manager Warren McDonnell.
His departure comes amid rumours that the club was split over the decision to offer Luke Brooks a new contract.

McDonnell, who has spent more than three decades at Wests and the Tigers across two stints, is believed to have split with the club on Wednesday morning.

Sheens was the driver behind his return to the club last year but his position has been under a cloud since the Tigers secured Scott Fulton from Manly.

McDonnell was responsible for signing some of the club’s most renowned players including Benji Marshall and Scott Prince.

Club officials privately dismissed those claims on Wednesday after it was put to them that Sheens and Marshall were responsible for the decision to offer Brooks a new two-year-deal when others were less than convinced.

The local take away outlets will miss Macca more than we will, hopefully Shonky Sheens will get the message that he shouldn't be signing all his "old mates" to the club

You'd expect Sheens is not happy with this.

Fair enough, should lead with that if it’s new to a thread, particular the rumour thread.

I just have a mental note in my head to take JT rumours with a grain of salt as they always seem to be off. Been disappointed too many times!
100% - if people are just regurgitating a twitter rumour they should attribute the source instead of framing it as though it is their own personal inside info!!

700k would be the going rate for a half in 2023
Halves are not a generic homogeneous commodity to which you can slap on an average market price!!

And you are ignoring the shortage of quality halves in the current market creates an inflationary premium for those positions (which is compounded by desperation and ambition of struggling clubs trying to turn a corner)!

$700K is massive unders for any proven NRL quality half/five-eighth in 2023/24!!

I'd be ok with something like $700k and under, i dont think $500 K will do it maybe somewhere in the middle, but we cannot pay him anywhere near what he was on it was a ridiculous contract. The thing thats in his favour is there's nothing on the market. Brooks always seems to have his contracts come up when theres not a lot on offer.
He wants to play finals fair enough but you cant have your cake and eat it too, he was paid on or close to a mil for long enough which means its harder to have money to attract a halves partner. Take the middle road get what his worth and then invest in a partner and have decent back up in Wakeham.

What's the limit though, if he wants over a million a year do you still sign him. Where do you draw the line on his value Jedi.

I honestly think 500k is a fair deal for Brooks and the club. I'd give him an extra year rather than increase the amount we are offering too much.

I suppose you go up to 600k but not much more if anything.
