Luke Brooks #167

The discount isn’t restricted to one club players.
You can use it on any player with 10 years as a top 30 player.
We could ditch Brooks and Nofo and still use it on Klem.

It's a non issue. The issue is he is consistently one of our best players and he is off contract.

Brooks is not a directing half but is a first grader and is worth a contract but valued accordingly.
It’s also apparent he must be the hardest person to run off aswell because for years many players slow at the line to wait for the ball or stop and jink to not run into him on the inside play

This isn't really true. I can go and post heaps of passes he has made that were pearlers this season.

He has had some moments but far to few to win us games. That's his role in the team and that is where he is very inconsistent.
I wouldn't be against resigning him as long as we get a better go to person in the 7 jersey. I was warming slightly towards Wakeham but last night............ neither are game breakers on a regular basis and that is one thing we sorely lack.

We don't have a regular game breaker period. It's a massive issue. I was really happy with Wakeham but last night was one of the worst halves performances I've ever seen.

I get your expectations of Brooks but there are very few halves/players in the comp that can do that.

We won't get a gun 7 next year. If we could I'd be ecstatic.

I really like the idea of resigning Brooks and Wakeham on fair dollars and going after some top quality juniors like has been discussed on this forum. It's the only way to get ahead. You can't live in fantasy land (this isn't directed at you) and expect some marquee half to just turn up at the club.

I still think there is plenty to like about this season. Brooks has been really good. On fair dollars I reckon he is a great signing. Wakeham has outperformed apart from a shocker last night. Bula coming good is huge. Api is a gun.

Reread. Not the point I was highlighting

I get what you are stating but I was responding to the point about how hard he is to run off. I agree he is definitely worth a contract.

Just as an example and it's not a huge thing but IP was on the right last night and he improved but he still didn't run great lines.

It's true we don't have a game-breaker but I do expect that of Brookes given the money he's been on for a long time (club's fault not his).
There are few players who can do that but we have to aspire to either getting or developing one. I agree that Wakeham has performed better than expected but he is still a fringe player unless he becomes more consistent with his defence and ball-playing ability - he is a good kicker and sometimes does very good things. I can forgive a player for mistakes but gee last night he was beyond ordinary - then again we were playing like their bitches last night - they knew where to attack in both defence and with the ball.
The good players step up in adversity and that is something we still don't have in our playmakers.
A bit unrelated but Stef has said he aspires to being captain. I wonder if it would be good for him to be given a crack while Api is out. It may inspire to step up yet another level and become our version of JWH, Tino or Fisher-Harris

How did he play well?
He ran the ball for 100+m but it was mostly ineffectual…no line breaks, no line break assists, no tries, no try assists. He did put a few good long kicks in but some dreadful last tackle options as well.
His defence was terrible. He attempted 13 tackles, making 6….46.15% efficiency. The next worst was Talau and we all know how poorly he played.
Most importantly, he failed to step up and lead the side when Api went off. Our game plan, as flimsy as it was, went to shit and everyone just started playing for themselves.
I agree 100%, we had a stack of ball in their red zone and came up with nothing, sometimes not even putting a kick in on the last, this has been the issue all year, and it is no closer to being sorted. Wakeham was beyond terrible, so was Talau, but we needed and expected way more from Brooks last night, he has been good for a month, but last night was the old Luke Brooks.
I am leaning towards telling his manager we are going in a different direction, this direction has gave us nothing in 10 years, so time to rip the band aid off, plus he is now starting to get a few injuries, which he never got before

We need to actually have a different direction though at the moment we have AD only signed for next year and he will be lucky to play a game.

The names being thrown about are all pending a release or 25 options. I think his time is up here but if we think it can’t get worse next season atm is looking likely.

My last call PUNT him i am all over him and his useless organisation for 1 Million what I joke time to stop dreaming he will turn into a superstar, He offers $300, 000 as a player no more or hit the road LUKE

wakeham will be fine as a 7 in 2024 we don't need brooks lol
we do need Brooks question is we don't want to pay too much for him that is the key mo more than 700k he and his manager are in the box seat given quality options of frawley, Lam and Clune

I see this getting tackled on the 4th criticism regularly and I don't get it? What is his alternative? Hand it off to a player in worse position who will make no ground, get dominated in a tackle and then Brooks kick from further out under pressure after a slow play the ball. How is this better?
Brooks' half break is the right option. It just shows the short comings of the team as a whole that no one is capable of doing something on the last off the back of his run.
Cody Walker makes 4th tackle half breaks all the time. The difference is someone steps up when he gets tackled.

Most would disagree he’s been consistently one of our best players for the last 10 years.
Plus he’s at an age and place where there’s no real upside.
If we keep him it should be on less money as a five eighth because we need to spend some real money on a good half.
The other thing of concern is that the last few years have seen injury starting to become an issue as he ages.
