Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

if you are Brooks and you have to take 550k you may as well try and take it at a club that might play semi finals in the next 2 years. Big difference taking 550k at Tigers or 550k at Roosters as an example
Agree, that's why I think he'll walk if he gets a decent offer. I find it hard to believe after 200 games for the club the board low ball him and ask for a decision by Sunday? We pay Klem $850k, Bateman $800k and our 7 gets offered $550K? He was on that 6 years ago.

Ideally we wouldn't be throwing in Conti and Large the second they turn 18. Ideally we'd be able to nurture them and give them time in flegg and Cup to acclimatise. If Fainu, Pezet or Sanders sign it's for the immediate first team. They're starting halves this/next year, see how they go. And they'd have a couple of years to find their feet before the likes of our young halves are ready to push for first grade. If they're doing well then decision are made on whom to keep, easing youngsters in off the bench like Storm did with Cronk etc.
Absolutely.

If Fulton doesn't want to pay more it's his call Sheen's by all accounts does but Sheen's is only the coach not the football list manager

good on Paul Gallen his value is what the market pays him not what P Gallen thinks. If he gets 700k at another club then that is his "value"
As Gould said on 100% footy not many 200 game halves for sale... he will land somewhere
You and a few others are very defensive of anything about Brooks, yet you guys dismiss any other opinion that you don't agree with

Exactly this, Gould uses the Tigers as a deflection all of the time. Ask him how the Dogs went on the weekend and why we struggled when he STOLE our coach FFS ! he does nothing but point the finger at our club and when he does it the so called “advice“ he offers is always crap designed to cause uncertainty and controversy.. worry about your own problems Phil, we good thanks

Gus uses his media persona to get what he wants, remember when he was telling all and sundry Ciraldo was not the right fit for us and the dogs had no interest?
Then boom Ciraldo walks through our entire facilities presumably our cap situation and turns us down for the dogs, who werent interested in him.
Gus not only does it to us he does it to other clubs either directly or indirectly through his jurno pals.
You used the term deflection and its 100% correct he'll use us or the dragons or whoever suits his needs at the time to deflect away from him and the dogs or Panthers before that.
I really think it shouldnt be allowed but how do you stop it, same for Anasta he has a conflict of interest as a player manager, you could also argue had Benji kept his show on fox that would be another conflict. Im so sick of that bloke poking his nose into every other clubs affairs and its never in the perspective of a journalist.

Metcalf’s stocks rose on the weekend just gone.
I think one of Metcalf, TM Martin or Volkman has to be released if Johnson is extended (as they also have Walker, Tavita Harris signed in the halves plus Nicoll-Klokstad could play 5/8 if required). Not to mention a decent salary going to the returning RTS

Metcalf has Fulton links through his time at Manly, TMM is a former Tigers junior & good relationship with Benji while Volkman is a Sydney lad.

All 3 could work well in our system with the right complementing halves partner.

We are absolutely stuffed for a 6 and 7 for 2024 as it stands now. In a perfect world we sign two experienced quality NRL halves for two or three years. That’s highly unlikely to happen due to the available stock and our standing in the league.

Next best option is we get one quality rookie and hope we snare an experienced one to complement the rookie. The final option is two quality rookies.

Somehow I think we are going to finish up with a couple of middle of the road guys on the rebound from ESL. Very hard to get excited as we are hearing nothing, but I guess no leaks is a good thing

I'm not convinced Teddy was stronger and quicker. Teddy had a completely different style in everything he did so it's hard to compare. Tedesco was a pinball machine style runner, bouncing off and around players with a jerky running style. Bula is an elegant runner, finding space through finesse. IMO if Tedesco tried that at his age he would have been man handled. I know which style I prefer over the long term, and that's Bula's.
Teddy was always really strong in the hips and upper body.

That spine could be greatness.
If that is the plan, I’m all in.
We need a better coach than Benji to bring them through though.
Agree with u 100% , I just don’t get it why this could not work , we have the cap we can offer 1st grade spots NOW , both players will have to wait for years where there at , I really don’t care that they don’t have experience, while we have this great pack to look after them , this is the time to blood them , the club should be all over this , BUT I bet there not even looking 🥴m

Be keen to hear from some of our regular Super League watchers on the development of Lachlan Lam this season. Story overnight ...

https://www.loverugbyleague.com/post/lachlan-lam-leigh-leopards-papua-new-guinea-super-league-nrl

Leigh coach Adrian Lam is ‘confident’ that superstar Lachlan Lam will remain with the club beyond this season despite interest from the NRL and Super League.

Papua New Guinea international Lachlan Lam has been in exceptional form for Leigh this season and is currently Super League’s Player of the Month.

The 25-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and is attracting interest from both sides of the world, according to his father and current coach Adrian.

Last week, News Corp reported that NRL side Canberra Raiders are interested in signing Lachlan for next season, but Adrian responded to those reports by saying he is confident his son will remain with the Leopards next season.

Speaking after 28-16 win over Hull on Friday, Leigh coach Adrian Lam said: “We are still working hard on keeping him here.

“There is interesting coming from all over the place at the moment, even in Super League, so we are trying to fend it all off as we do but that’s what you get when you are playing good rugby, you get interest from around the place.

“I’m confident that he’ll stay here next year but we’ll have to wait and see. Hopefully we can get that finalised in the next couple of weeks.”

Lachlan Lam enjoying his time in England as Leigh look to give new deal
Lam was an important part of Leigh’s promotion-winning campaign from the Championship after arriving midway through last season from Sydney Roosters in the NRL.

And he has taken his game to another level in 2023, with Leigh sitting third in the Super League table and in the Challenge Cup quarter-finals.

“He’s enjoying his time here and is developing as a player under some good coaching!” Adrian laughed.

“We anticipate this as well. There’s Tom Amone that might be looked at soon, he’s contracted to us but he wants to play in the NRL, he’s done all of that.

“In regards to Lachlan, if you are watching him play every week, he could be doing this in the NRL too but he’s doing a great job here.

“He’s loving life here at the moment, he’s a big part of the group, he’s one of the leadership players so nothing is going to change just yet, let’s hope.”

Best Paid player at a club should be a Game changer.

Brookys is not that at all.
I agree (at least to an extent depending on how you define game changer).

But its debatable if he has even been the best paid player at the club in his time here. I know I'll get a bunch of $mil a year comments but if his true contract value, due to back ending, is only 750k as suggested then he hasn't been. If it's 900k as suggested it is still only equal to what we've paid others.
Additionally, I've not seen one Brooks supporter suggest we make him the best paid player at the club in the future. Just that we should have offered him something reflective of what an experienced half-back typically earns.

Having said all that. My post wasn't about valuing him.
It was why would he want to stay here given the state of the club and the unjust/vile (not the fair and reasoned) criticism he cops here?

Why would any half want to come here to cop that?
