Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

That could be entirely why Brooks was given a deadline, not out of disrespect, but full knowledge of who his manager is.

There are many people who criticise giving players a deadline, but when you know how their managers drag things out in public, it makes sense to take away some of the manager's posturing power.
Could not agree more, I have said many times, Isaac Moses has played us numerous times, we should not be negotiating anymore with him over Brooks, tell him he has rejected the offer, we are not coming back, end of section. Then if he does want to come back, the offer is $450K, lets start giving instead of taking for a change

“Chad’s not going anywhere.
I approached Chad a few weeks ago if he was home sick and he told me then that he was settled.
I gave him my backing that he is not going anywhere.
I will say this about Luke Brooks, I have a high opinion of him as a player and the way he has handled himself over the last few years with the media scrutiny on top of him shows great mental fortitude.
His best footy is still in front of him. Where he ends up, the club is going to be in good shape, but it won’t be here.
I appreciate the journos that come through the front door and go to the source and question me and I will always answer those calls.
I understand the scrutiny and comment in our game, but this has been bubbling away now for six or eight weeks and I don’t know why it has grown legs when we have addressed it a few times.”

“Chad is contracted to the Cowboys for another year and he is honouring his deal.
I spoke to several English clubs about my off-contract list of players but Chad is not on that list as he’s contracted to the Cowboys.
The Cowboys have been great to Chad, he’s been great for them, and he’s so happy in Townsville he recently bought a new house there, so there’s no reason for him to leave.”
— Chris Orr

“Luke wants to test the market and it is sad and disappointing.
The club made what we believed to be a fair market value offer.
It was a genuine offer because our intentions were to retain Luke and keep him as a one-club player.
I know that Benji and Tim were very keen on him being in their plans moving forward.
It’s just a commercial reality.”

Townsend is out of form at the moment, but he has the runs on the board over a long period of time that Brooks does not.

If we ended up swapping Brooks for Townsend we'd be trading Brooks superior running game and long kicking for Townsends superior short kicking and game management.

I don't know why we wouldn't try and sign Averillo. Dolphins are after him, apparently 1.2m for 3 years. Pretty modest deal for a player becoming a good first grade centre with the ability to fill in at both 1 and 6 competently. At only 23 years old he should continue to improve.

1. Bula
2. Naden
3. Averillo
4. To'a
5. Tupou

Might be the fastest backline we've ever had.
Would be happy given him $450 to $480

There’s not a lot out there in the halves , the super league has dried up with large fees wanted to break contracts.
Looking at what’s here for us , I believe the best we can get is SAM WALKER , the kid has footy smarts , is fast is a good goal kicker , think him and brooks would make a good combination

What sort of contract would you give Sam Walker?

I can't see the Roosters releasing him. They've had quality players in reserve grade, just in case, in the past. Keary won't go for much longer, so they'll need to replace him soon. I can't see them wanting to get two new halves. Theoretically, if he was free to negotiate, I would think 600K x 3 years.
