Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Agree re the backrow effectivness but that comes down to attacking structures, lack of centers and our halves have no idea how to setup. We have zero depth allowing players to offer effective line runners, decoys and options. We are badly coached atm.

Re Bateman you’re hard on him. He isn’t a lock and is trying to do too much I feel at the moment. He is giving us 80mins, making 40+ tackles, 100+ mtrs, he has leg speed, is often the 1st forward back onside and is just tireless every game with minimal errors (misses) whilst being asked to ball play. All this without even having a NRL pre season under his belt & joining late. I was very critical of getting him & not convinced of his fit for us but to compare Seyfarth with him is laughable they aren’t even close to the same league at the moment NRL level wise.
If he was offered to every other NRL club at 700k per season they would laugh in our face.
Both Blore and Seyfarth won’t have a problem being snapped up by other NRL clubs for their 200k -250k value.

we had a shit pack last year, I don't see your point. I actually think Sheens/Benji is the reason he's improved
Im 77 years old, dont think I can wait another 10 years for brooks to improve sufficiently to steer our team into a semi series,
Already waited 10.
I am an old Balmain Tiger boy. Only seen my team win in 1969 then as West Tigers in 2005.

AND I WOULD LOVE TO SEE ANOTHER BEFORE MY TIME RUNS OUT.

BUT CANNOT FOR THE LIFE OF ME SEE THAT HAPPENING WITH LUKE BROOKS STILL IN THE TEAM.
LOOK AT LETS SAY THE COWBOYS HALF TOM DEARDON, HE SCORES TRIES, HE BREAKS THE LINE AND HE KICKS GOALS, AND HE BACKS UP.

OFFER HIM SOME DECENT $$$$$.

HE DOES MORE IN ONE GAME THAN LUKE DOES IN 10 GAMES.

I don't think there are too many genuine #13's available for next season. Kurt Mann & Connor Watson might both become available, and if fit, offer that quicker, dangerous middle forward style player. But I fear neither can be considered 'fit' on a regular basis.

Someone from the lower grades NEEDS to become that #13. Matamua seems the likely option. Rua could be the type that could do a job there.

One forward from outside that I'd like to add would be Bullemor from Manly. Look at his numbers- he plays some big minutes, across the park- but the stat that caught my eye was the amount of tackle busts he makes. His ability to keep the ball moving is impressive. Even if he was just an elite bench player- I think he offers something to the squad.

If we could add Bullemor & Keio Weekes to our side, plus bulk up our halves options- we are moving in the right direction. One other name I'd consider due to his versatility is Bayley Sironen. He can fill in across the backrow & in the centres at a pinch, has his fair share of tackle busts & plays busy. You need those types of players in the squad.

Love your post and passion 👍

Agree Brooks ship has sailed and never worked for one reason or another….

Stay around a few more years hey, once these kids grow up it’s going to be fun to watch like Dallin last nite, kids got a bright future

I think we’d all like to see that, not saying Brooks will lead us to a GF, but given the current options keeping him and going hard for a true half would, in my opinion, be our best bet. Our club hasn’t been able to attract 1 decent half let alone two. Sign him on a two year deal and if we find someone better early, play Brooks off the bench or reserves, god know we have plenty of cap space to carry him for a year. What happens if we let Brooks go and we can’t sign anyone else?

A bird in the hand is better than two in the bush.

Im a fan of bates remaining at 13 whilst captain. Just drop the emphasis on ball playing responsibility and let him run and offload/quick play ball. He leads by example in middle defence, also allows him to be close to the ref for appeals. Basically like Paul Gallen. Shame our halves situation can't support this.

Sheens mentioned in the presser "experiment for next year" after we are mathematically out of the 8. We should be turning this on now. 2 weeks to somehow magically make something happen.

Our forward pack still needs work. We a destroyer, a bit hitter. JWH, Lodge, NAS, Kafusi type for 15 min stints. Surely there is a beefhead in the UK of the likes

Give yourself an uppercut you imbecile.
No other team in the NRL would even think twice at paying 700k per season for an average toiler such as Bateman.
He contributes nothing to our attack and his tackles would not knock the top off a custard tart.

Lol what a clown you are. This is how you let everyone know you don’t watch games without telling everyone you don’t watch games. What absolute tool you are.

If he was as overrated as you think, then you wouldn’t have had to make outright lies about him. Not to mention the stats and eye test completely expose your dumbarse argument.

But that’s okay. Keep holding the water for nuffies like Brooks and Seyfarth while the rest of us laugh at your stupidity and watch the real players like Bateman play with a bit of pride and effort.

I have no idea at the point you’re trying to make.
Would you prefer a team full of 200k reggies or an actual NRL team?

You’re comparing apples with oranges. An 80min NRL quality player to a 40min fringe or an injury prone player that has had 2 ok games at NRL level.

Bateman is a NRL starter and wouldn’t have an issue finding another NRL club if shopped around heck Parra paid 600k for Joffa within a week of being shopped. The Raiders paid a fortune for him before he left & that was before the cap increase happened. $700k isn’t ridiculous spend in today’s cap it’s the new $500k these days & someone would pay it easily for him. That’s how the economy works.

Blore has apparently been shopped around for weeks, hasn’t been snapped up yet despite us having him on contract next season (normally means we tip in). Seyfarth is off contract still for next season.

Again we are focusing on mediocre inconsistency type players which isn’t good enough if we want to play finals year in year out.

I just want to win as well. My opinion though is that you can't have a team full of stars. Look at Melbourne. They don't have a team of stars but they have a spine of Grant, Munster, Hughes and Papenhuyzen.

I agree we need class players but I honestly think if we could just add for instance Munster or Moses to our team we'd be so much better.

I agree with most of what you say MT, but we have a massive issue in our back row.
I don’t need to look at stats to know we have made the least amount of line breaks out of any NRL team in the back row, add to that we have yet to find a 13 that does anything to assist our halves with some simple ball playing.
Papali’i has been slowly building and was by far our best player last night. I agree Blore hasn’t done much until last night, but he’s a big body with decent speed and toughness, he’s still very young for an NRL forward and surely he has much more upside than an ageing slowing Bateman.
You keep saying Seyfarth is not up to it and I agree I don’t think he’s done enough to be a starting player, but he comes off the bench makes plenty of tackles and very rarely misses one. Tell me what Bateman does any better than him ? Not forgetting you cannot have any NRL side such as Wests Tigers with no local juniors that bring a bit of heart & soul into the team, Seyfarth is one of the only few local juniors in our current top 17 and would be on a minimum wage which allows us to potentially spend more to try and sign players in the positions we desperately need.
Bateman on 700k offers nothing other than a bit of fire when the opposition rubs him the wrong way. I’d much prefer he runs the ball and tackle with a bit of purpose other than running like he’s wearing gum boots and make 40 arm grabbing tackles which are often 3rd man in. He’s also good for a dumb turn over when we are in good field position every week.

I agree with all your points except Bateman. He was poor last night but every other game he has offered us something.

All these people saying "Hunt won't come to the Tigers", how do we know if we don't try? Gotta have a go and he is the best halfback who might be available. The worst thing that can happen is he says no.

Personally I would have been going hard after Averillo as he is one of the best outside backs available for next year, and can cover fullback and halves in a pinch.
I agree. Hunt left Qld for good money before for a team with issues. Despite our position on the table, I think we've got a lot more going for us than the saints.

It will be his last contract. He'll be after the $$$

Him and Brooks in the halves next year (brooks playing 6), with AD coming back as 14 will be golden.

The value in hunt also lies in that he's a quality 9 as well. If there is an injury to Api, it gives us options.

Make it happen mgmt!

It’s strange you read that comment on Hunt re wants to go to a contender but then he gets linked to the Bulldogs & Titans - Bulldogs won’t be contenders next season & maybe Titans could be if they can stabilize their combinations but they need more than Hunt to have a good crack.

If you added Hunt to that Titans team they would actually be a contender IMO.

They are top 2 in the NRL in most stats first 60 mins of games...then they collapse.

He would solve a lot of those issues.

Hence his urgency to get up there…
He’s not doing anything at the Dragons this year, sees himself half a chance to do
Something at the titans
