Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

To reiterate, we should play the long game and buy a young emerging half. Sounds like there are some out there (not Cogger or Clune though - they’re shit).

I don’t get this whole thing heaps of knobs say - let’s get an older guy in and one of the young guys coming through can be mentored by the older guy - morons!

The only way to get experience is to play. Throw them in the deep water and see if you can survive. That’s called experience.

You don’t need mentors. You can either play or you can’t.

I want mine players - talented with some experience but genuine first graders.

Official Averillo going to Dolphins for 400k pa
3 months ago suggested we make a bid but as usual a big nothing
That's what I think Fulton is . A pawn in the club politics . We recruit nobody ?

Exactly!!
You need to understand the mentality of the Wounded Magpie though man,
You don't need talent if there's some connection to the old boys...
They'd give Tommy Raudonikis's postman a Jersey those types....
I totally understand..its why we have a coaching situation as it is....
Which is what Im hoping we avoid Cogger other than a Will Smith replacement as back up only
Not a NRL starter

Fix sports have a defensive stat called Try Causes for where that players actions are the most responsible for a try being scored against your team. The player with the highest number in 2023 - Averillo. Our worst Junior Tupou and Asu Kepaoa - although given Kepaoas limited minutes his per minute is prob worst in the Comp.

Look at the losers Bula had "mentoring" him. Thank God he didn't learn anything from them.

There is always a position for a good player and Brooks is a good player. I understood the concept is to keep your good players and surround them with more good players. Welsby can play a number of positions.
Welsby plays 1 and 6. We have a fullback. Luke Brooks is a 6 and has stated he's leaving. Welsby would be an ideal 6. Then we need a capable 7 to lead the team, kick us into territory and communicate and deliver the gameplan. Unfortunately they're the things Luke can't do. There's a reason why we haven't been winning games this year despite the forwards going well. There's no halfback doing halfback things.

Luke Brooks played great for about a month when he basically Just ran like a 6. I'm happy for him to stay on at what we offered but not as halfback. If he stays we need a proper 7. Not another 6

Take this with a grain of salt but a mate of mine who has pretty good intel just mentioned that Ben Hunt is almost certainly coming to the Tigers! Apparently wants to link forces with Benji and attracted by the roster the club has to work with over the next 3 years.

Wouldn’t complain if we extended Staines, grabbed Friz and Hunt for next year mixed with signing Fainu or another young half in Nov for 25.

Would build us very well.

My God - Koriseau, Hunt and Bula - 3 excellent players in 3 of the 4 key spine positions. We haven't had this since Farah, Prince, and Hodgson. If we could land Hunt, the club will turn within a year - positively. Not keeping my fingers crossed, but I wonder if Hunt really can see the potential that is within this club.

Heads would explode on NRL360 if that happened

Bula has a million miles to go....

Having Billy Slater as a mentor certainly seems to be working for Reece Walsh...
Ok. So would you expect Bula to stay and play state cup if we bought a fullback to play in front of him? Noting Bula has been awesome?

Would you stay with your employer if they brought someone in to do your role that you’ve been doing really well to mentor you? I’m hearing crickets.

Reece Walsh may play a similar style to Billy Slater and be inspired by him, but he’s not being mentored by him.

Mentoring - pathetic.
