Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

So many theories from Manly forum insiders about the Fainu brothers:

a) it's a manager beat up
b) they are coming to the Tigers with the Fulton link
c) they are going to the Dragon with the Flanagan link
d) they are going to the Titans with the Hasler link
e) If it's b, c or d, it's because Manly happy to see them go (bad eggs from Guildford)

The WTs' rumour is the only one linking more than one player to any of those clubs. Three in fact which is specific.

Fulton will struggle to sign anyone noteworthy this year or next…stories from players who exit the club (Joffa, Gildart, Matterson)…carry a lot of weight with managers and players and anyone approached to sign they want nothing to do with this joint….
Gildart should say anything about any club the way he tackles. Haha

That said, and to contradict what I just posted to a degree, if Hunt WAS to be chased & signed (regardless of cost) there are a couple of scenarios that could work out long term:

Wakeham gets extended to be the primary back-up #7 & learn from Hunt. At 23 years old, he's shown glimpses this season of being a player. With a smattering of games, and learning from someone like Hunt, he could be a servicable #7 once Hunt retires if he can continue developing.

Doueihi could fit better with Hunt @ #7- he's not an organising player etc, he's more an athlete. Hunt running the show allows Doueihi to play the more dynamic running 5/8 role- one he is far better suited to.

Large- Hunt gets 2 years. Large will be 18/19 at that point & probably close to ready to be included in the squad.

There is still probably a need for a 'bridge' player between now & either when Doueihi is back, or Large is ready. But, there COULD be something of a succession plan in place, if they play it out right.

I know Doueihi is on the nose a bit, but he is still, probably, our most skillful player in the halves at the club. With the right combinations, he can be successful.
Douhei needs his own Full time Tackling coach . 24-7 .. perhaps a coach to work on motivation as well,, inspiring Adam to put his body on the line in a contact sport Adam seems to not like the contact aspect , sadly .. Adam has all the skills of a really good winger .. In the air, tall and likes to score ,, but is maybe a touch slow to be a top flight winger .. has the passing game of a winger also ..

Des Hasler is the new coach of the Titans, Holbrook sacked effective immediately.
Sad ,, Holbrook looked to me to be doing a really good job.. Defence structure and ball movement was Too class from his titans this year.. the players all seem to respect and play for him .. I wish he was at Tigers

Touch to slow??Try way TO slow. He could play a Yeo style 13, but the defence part may challenge him. Although defending in the middle you usually don’t have to make a decision, you just have to knock the bloke over who is running at you

If he leaves it’s too us….

Fulton connection: The reason he was at Manly to begin with is because Fulton recruited him and they have a good relationship as he recruited the whole Fainu family to Manly (all 4 of them). Fulton has a good relationship with the family.

Feledy connection: His former captain, these two fit like a glove as a pairing on the left side and you’d assume Fainu would love the idea of playing with him again.

Sione connection: we have his brother already at the club, reports are it’ll be a package deal with his other brother as they wanna play together. Why wouldn’t they all want to link up together the 3 of them.

Western Sydney/Family connection: The Fainu family are a very very very close family and don’t think he’ll ever want to relocate from Western Sydney as he’s grown up there his whole life. His uncle also played for Wests Magpies back in the day so some family history.

Benji connection: As a young 6 from Western Sydney growing up watching prime Benji, having the opportunity to play under him would be extremely appealing. They have similarities in their games with their flair but Benji was just quicker whilst Fainu is stronger. Our attack style and the way we want to play suits Fainu’s style massively, the space Api/TDS could create for him would be huge. Benji has also been very vocal about wanting players to embrace a level of X-factor and not shy away from their instincts.

Forward pack and facilities: For a young half when you look at our forward pack… you’d be frothing from the mouth and the ability to have Api as your 9 would be attractive as well. On top of that, Manly’s facilities are arguably the worst in the league if we were to give him a tour of our COE and allow him to compare I think he would be happy to make the move.

Sell the young dream:
1: Bula (most likely going to win ROTY)
6: Fainu (best 6 prospect in the comp)
7: Lot of salary cap to make a move
9. Tallyn Da Silva (best 9 prospect in the comp)

That spine has the ability to be anything and Fainu knows that. Combine that with other young players like Tupou, Feledy, Stefano, Papalili, To’a, Pole, Twal and Blore etc and then the experience of Api, Bateman and Klemmer.

If we somehow don’t get him signed and he goes elsewhere with all this in our favour, then we have a serious problem.

Love it @teddy23 . But as a lot of these things come down to, it will be manager politics & $$$$. You would think we still have both of those in our favour.

However, Manly still have to agree to a release and I'm sure they'll play hard ball.

There's a Tartak connection also... 😆😉
