Soccer is superior to Rugby League

I don’t get how rugby league isn’t the most popular sport in the world

It literally has everything skill fatigue aggression passion

The nrl is also 1 of the most even completions in the world

Soccer is so boring I don’t get how any 1 enjoys it
Usually, its simply what took hold around 100-150 years ago. Most soccer-mad nations don't have competitive rugby teams either, it's all football-centric.

Also soccer has a very cheap, very low bar to park participation, unlike league where you need more space and kids willing to get tackled.

Soccer is alright but you have to give it time; I was mostly disinterested until about 6 years ago when I decided I wanted a Summer sport to follow, so I started watching Premier League every week. Took about a year - year and half to properly get into it. Hardest part I found was, as a born-bred Leaguie, how much diving there is, and how low scoring matches can see the far worse team jag points. You just have to accept that as part of that code.

It's a very simple game. The rules are pretty clear and there's few of them. The only real interpretations that have to be determined come from challenges/tackles and that's about it.

It's easy to learn but hard to master. I feel a lot more Aussies would appreciate the game if it wasn't rife with diving.
When my son was about seven he was somewhat interested in soccer. He and I watched a FIFA (junior level) game Denmark VS somebody on TV.
At one point, one of the players got fouled somehow, pretended to get tripped, and rolled an impossible number of times before stopping and grabbing his knee in agony. In due course some guys ran out and stretchered him off. As soon as the bad guy got carded, the supposedly injured guy jumped off the stretcher and ran back on.
That was the end of my son's interest in soccer.

Sure its simple on a whole, but there's plenty of intricacies to consider though and don't get me wrong I don't think too many RL players have an IQ over 70 but soccer is below flatlining when it comes to brains needed to play the game.
I used to brag about my IQ... But then someone told me it wasn't a percentage.... 🤪

It's these players who give it a bad rep. I quite like "football" but the South American and some (mostly Mediterranean?) European players are just ridiculous.

It shows the cultural differences. In Australia, you have to be almost dead to show any pain, yet these guys think it is 'crafty' to milk a penalty.

Seriously, the way some go on I'd be so embarrassed. I used to watch the premier league a lot - when I lived in UK (can't avoid it!) And when it was on fox sports - but it wasn't bad in that regard. Even the A-League started giving 'cynical' yellow cards. Although how they came up with cynical I don't know...?

But I digress. As stated, simply because a sport is more international doesn't make it better; it's completely subjective and how many millions of these people have never even seen rugby league?

I grew up playing Aussie rules until I did my Doueihi. I mean, my acl. When I came back I played league, and it was so fun being allowed to hit and get hit as hard as possible again.

In my opinion, league has the perfect amount of scoring and skills to appreciate; there's no other sport with anything as exciting as a line break and the sprint to score or even to catch that guy.

I also put mma and boxing as favourites. So much courage and skill in both, and yeh, it can be brutal, but the chance your guy is going to get knocked out makes the stakes high; you're not only hoping they win, you're also really really hoping they don't lose badly.

Yeah that's fair enough. I understand why people don't like the game.

League is well headed down that path too though.

Agree completely. I gave up long ago trying to explain why I like watching football.

And it is plain to see with players staying down for penalties. The game I just watched (war v nqld) a player stayed down and the replay showed the tackler only got the ball. Needs to be sorted asap. 😡

To be fair, my son no longer follows RL either. His go is judo.

pero para los tigres del oeste, el corazón es débil y la mente no existe

As someone who played both sports Soccer takes far more skill to play then Rugby League. Anyone can pick up a footy & run hard & tackle but the amount of skill & talent you need to actually be good at Soccer far surpasses any skills needed to play league.

I loved watching the 'match of the day' (on the ABC from memory) from England once each week during the days of Bobby Charlton and many others whose names I have forgotten.
Back in the day, I loved watching John Barnes.

Yes. Though league skills are catching up. Did anyone see Fifita’s dive on the weekend? What about the constant play acting for potential crusher tackles or hip drops.

Any game that celebrates a 0-0 draw is bloody useless.
That is anti entertainment. Almost as bad as having to sit and nod politely while a mentally challenged kid tries to explain the space-time continuum to you…
