I know it’s good to have these young guys coming through and it’s all a feel good story but we need to push that to the side for 1 or 2 years until we get out first grade side competitive , yes keep the pathways going but we really need to go all out and buy 6 to 8 players who are either first graders or players like say Trindal who are stuck behind good quality players , pay overs but really get the ones we need in position
if we need a lock , buy a lock
if we need a 7 , buy a 7
this is the only way to get on top
Sheens playing Toa at 5/8 , he’s a good solid centre leave him there

It’s been said before, but maybe the NRL want a couple of Sydney teams to roll over and die, so they can spread the game to geographical better time slots. Although that will not improve the talent pool

Being a Sydney team or not has very little do with success - it's about culture - something which both Wests and Balmain sucked at for years - with the Wests Tigers ensuring the losing pedigree only becomes stronger.

saturday was atrocious. no other way to look at it. 9 tries down the right edge points to where the issue is. Nofoaluma is being shopped, Wakeham is a park footballer and Papali'i has been shifted from the right to the left which has resulted in a complete lack of cohesion.

it's time for Bateman to move back to the right, with iPap to the left and Blore to the bench. if Matamua or Laulili'i aren't ready then go to market. Morgan Smithies would be ideal. tackles his ass off. if not look at Nathan Brown or Connor Watson.

Naden can move to NSW Cup. Paul Momirovski is a great option that would be available and ensures Feledy isn't blooded early. Tupou is in a slump but he's young and will get out of it. Latu is the ideal target to play 6, and while he'll have his deficiencies defensively, he'll create plenty of points. Trindall would be nice, but I'm unsure if he's the ideal option given the lack of experience in the spine sans Api. Mitchell Pearce makes sense. throw him the keys.

I would like Momo back, Our biggest mistake was punting him as he could have been a long term Centre. But he hasn't set the world alite at Easts, neither has Conner Watson. I don't want Bondi Dreamers here because they will set us up as a "tier 2" team.

If were going to spend the money, lets get a Winger and Centre from the same team who can defend together. Lets too get a tackling coach! We clearly did not isolate the ball in our tackles vs NQL and paid a very hefty price for that.

Good post but I disagree with this approach. We need the kids coming in. The players you mentioned don't have it and just ensure more losses with no hope for improvement.

We need to recruit smartly but average players will always give average results.

Naden has been a victim of his versatility and moving between the right and the left, and while I think he is excellent on his day, I think he's best served as depth. I think that Feledy will jump him eventually, but there was a reason why Momirovski filled his role and eventually won a comp in 2021 at Penrith.

I'm not asking for elite talent, I want experienced players who will mentor the kids. Momirovski provides that. knows the system, has been in a stack of successful teams (Chooks 2018, Melbourne 2020, Penrith 2021) and is readily available. poor Connor Watson has struggled with injury and Robbo's obsession with playing him as a front rower. he will do well here.

for the most part of this year, we have defended well. I attribute that to cohesion and effort. the effort on Saturday was non existent and our left and right combinations are unrecognisable from preseason. as a result, scorelines like this come to exist.

while I agree that we need to push the kids through, you can't just put them in first grade and expect them to understand what is required after 50 games. a mix of youth and experience is imperative to long term success. look at Brisbane in 2020. a complete vacuum of experience and leadership and look what happens.

I have zero doubt in terms of the talents of our youngsters. Da Silva, the Laulili'i's, Lachlan Galvin, Chris Fa'agutu, the Large brothers, Alex Conti, Heath Mason, Makasini and Jordan Miller are all future first graders who will play 200 games providing they stay injury free, but they will not stay here unless there are mentors here that can show them the way. I think that Pearce, Momirovski and one of Watson/Brown could assist in that for the next few years while they understand what is required to be a first grader, along with Klemmer, Bateman, Api, Stef and Papali'i.

We know one has to be a halfback whether that is Mitchell Pearce or Chad Townsend falls out of the tree or L:achlan Lam or Jack Cogger.

Another should be an outside back that is good defensively. Momo could be an option or Connor Tracey.

Connor Watson would be good as a hooker/halves/lock utility off the bench especially if Jake Simpkin and/or Rua Ngatakuira go elsewhere.

Pearce and Townsend should be priority 1. guys like Trindall and Cogger priority 2. happy to run with a youngster at 6, whether that be Fainu, Metcalf, Volkman or one of our own in Galvin, Matai or otherwise.

Momirovski I think should be a high priority as you said. Tracey I think would probably opt to play for a club higher up the ladder, such is his talent. Watson I think is ideal given his versatility. covers 1, 6, 9 and 13.

Here’s a 1/2 back out of the blue , drinkwaters brother have watched him playing in England , he has pushed Williams to 5/8 , I remember him playing here in nsw cup he was a very good player , we were on top of the pile untill he left , think he would be worth a shit would not cost a lot

So we are in a similar position with Sheens to before our 05 success. We could only recruit players with ability if they were returning from major injury (Scott Prince & Pat Richards) or solid experienced players who Sheens felt were good for culture & could find their potential at the Tigers (Hodgson, Whatuira, Elford).

I’m wondering whether players with similar experience who have a point to prove & yet to hit their peak may be our target.

Three can think of off the top of my head are Lachlan Lam, Connor Tracey & Blake Taafe.

Any others that fit the profile?

I like Lam, his father would also work as the extra spoke of our coaching foursome that seems to be the way we are heading into the future.

I only remember our kicker kicking to the same place every time.

To NQL right wing, I do not recollect us changing our kick off once, so if what I viewed was right, we had 14 kick offs and every one of them was the same kick to the same place

What ever happened to changing your kickoffs,
Like an occasional short one, like putting ball on ground on its belly and drilling it straight at an opposition player along the ground to try and force an error, ????
