It was the classless act of a narcissist to hijack a charity event like that.
There's many forums that he has access to to voice his opinion. That was neither the time or the place.
Agreed, he is really an awful person and a creep.

Whatever we do, we should not listen to the Creepy old men of AM Radio. I think the only coach who has been worse then Jason Taylor has been Alan Jones. Even the massive loosing records of Wests are nothing to Alan's total hopelessness at Balmain.

The Yanks don't have much of a choice. The other dude wants to bang his own daughter.

100 million plus people and these two stooges are the best they can do.

It justs highlights the issues in the USA political system,if you are not extremely wealthy or have wealthy backers you can not become the leader of the country. At least under our system if somebody wants to become the leader it is possible whatever their background is.
I know which country is the closer to true democracy

I'm certainly going against the consensus here, but I don't think a charity event (where the club has supported it by paying $10k for a table) is the place for anyone to make the comments Jones did about a man who is sitting in the audience.

Right or wrong, it put Hangipantelis in a completely helpless position to defend himself whilst being very publicly humiliated.

I seem to recall Jones is of a very high intelligence, and barring any effects of ageing, this was a calculated attack which I think completely draws attention away from the cause of helping Anderson.

He could very well be spot on, but why say it at that time and place?

I think it is a tasteless, egocentric thing to do.
I don’t agree , Lee is always in a position where non of us fans or anyone really can get to him , this was a perfectly time shot at Lee and the other free loading bludgers which are called our board , well Done Jones I say

What would you ask Alan Jones (former Tigers coach) about footy?

I wouldn't load up a gun like she did in that particular setting. I'm happy Lee has been humiliated, but I do agree with those that say it's the wrong place, and she was the major contributor IMO. She would know what Jones is like, and that he is more then capable of taking away from the event.

Alan Jones comments

“If Mr Hagipantelis had a problem with what I said he could have come and talked to me,”

“I did coach the Balmain Tigers for nothing.

“At the end of the day, there’s been so many changes at the club, and with every change requires a drain on the resources of the club. Millions of dollars.

“People are sacked and they are paid out early.

“Then the people they’ve appointed fail and they want to blame someone else.

“The punter out there wants scores on the board.

“You can’t win every game, I concede that, but he’s in charge of what is a mess.

“He said we were going to get better this year and they haven’t.

“If it was a company like BHP they’d be gone.”

Apologies if posted earlier.
“If Mr Hagipantelis had a problem with what I said he could have come and talked to me,”

And created a scene at a charity fundraiser.

“I did coach the Balmain Tigers for nothing.

30 years ago. Different era, different club. Nice casual reference to doing it pro bono. Big noting himself much?

I thought the club is profitable?

Like the coach?

“The punter out there wants scores on the board.

Which they've tried to by sacking Maguire.

when? i highly doubt he would speak in absolutes about something he has no control over: winning games. Would very likely be feel good rhetoric about "how excited" they are about the season ahead, etc.

“If it was a company like BHP they’d be gone.”

Rubbish. A company like BHP is responsible solely to make a profit for its shareholders. No one cares if they've exported more tonnes of ore this year than last: they care about making money off their investment.

In this sense, if the Wests Tigers was a publicly listed company the shareholders would give 2 shits about winning games. They'd care about their returns on their investment.

Yes, a ridiculous defence of the club, because a rugby league club is not BHP and this comparison is ridiculous.

In any business or sporting club people have different jobs because it takes people with expertise in different areas to be successful.

Isn't the board and administrative side of the club responsible for it's sustainability and performance in a commercial sense?

Isn't it the coaching and recruitment people's jobs to recruit players and then have them perform?

Then ultimately, it is the players who lose the games, which is the face of the club the public sees, and therefore brands the club as a failure.

Hangipantelis and Pascoe may be complete knobs, and from what I read here I suspect they are.

But I consider their roles business focused, and as a business it's hard to refute they are succeeding when the club rates at a net worth of $13.3M.

Their continued interference with the football department muddies the waters far too much for the blame to be solely apportioned to that department.
